Hold on there; that term is actually the name of the political group from the early '60's that might be considered the 'original' hippies. --but I agree with the overall point of your post.

In the 80's, I had the metal look, the big hair, leather all that shit.. I thought it was stupid. I ditched it for flannel shirts and jeans, then those guys in Seattle made a 12 dollar flannel shirt worth 40 bucks.. That fad was stupid...
