Hi Symple, what is a hippy indeed. For me, a hippy is someone who is understanding of others, and who cares for the environment around them, as much as they can. A hippy is against violence and misrepresentation. Never judge a book by it's cover type of attitude, as for the rest............ahh well. L & P, BusHippy.
What is a Hippie? I know one when I see one! But using words to define what a hippie is confines a free flowing spirit to the words used to describe it. It’s a little like defining clouds as water vapor, which may be accurate but some how robs them of their beauty and their ability to become cats and dogs and horses and ships and ice cream castles.
You could just as well be describing an Amish community (except for the drugs part) , and they don't much like hippies. All those are fine qualities, but to me they have to apply at every level, not just in someone's personal life. Which is not possible in a society like this. There are plenty of people around with those personal qualities, yet they buy the products of earth-raping, war-making corporations who exploit the hell out of poor people around the world. And they invest in them through banks and insurance companies and personal stock portfolios and pension funds or personal retirement plans.. And they work for them, directly or indirectly. Unless hippyness reaches out to every level, it remains a shallow and feeble thing. Basically a sham. That's why we formed the communes in the 60's and 70's, in an attempt to build a better society. Hi + My view of a Hippie has always been one who has freedom of Spirit, youthful Soul, inner strength, an advocate of Freedom and Justice. True to one's values tolerant and understanding of others, but - also tempered with the resolve of conviction - (Protest is 'not' an ugly word) One who prescribes to a philosophy of :- H. Help I. In P. Producing P. Peaceful I. Individual E. Existence and of course ... <* Peace + Love ~ Save the Planet *>
