What makes one a so called "hippie"? Is it long hair or being pacifist or being attracted to smoking a little wildwood flower, etc? Tell me, in your own words, what you think either makes a hippie or makes you one? Express yo'self!! :daisy:

I would say all of the above answers....and I don't consider myself a hippie really, although I am a non conformist and love flowers and love and peace.....etc......I like the older hippies and their attitudes. I think anyone that was not a hippie in the 60's and feel like a hippie spirit in these days...may be neo hippies......I am a bit of that,...but more than once i have been called a neo beatnik, as I write and paint and sort of have that that flair with my dress many times....and attitudes.....

I get along with the peace attitude hippies who just want to live and love and let live and love.... :)

I think it's being unique and thinking differently to general society. Probably being a bit more arty, which you might express in your clothing style, creating art, writing poetry or fiction, playing musical instruments, enjoying music and concerts / festivals. Enjoying things that are unique and not mainstream. Loving nature, doing green things and trying to be kinder to the planet. I love seeing unique and individual people who inspire me, people who aren't afraid to do something that might not be considered cool or normal to do, but just be themselves and enjoy whatever makes them happy.

And if your family call you weird, then that probably counts too! ;)

Also, the more I learn about the Bohemians of Victorian times, I'm thinking maybe the Bohemians were the Hippies of the Victorian age. Perhaps they just had a different name for Hippies back then.

As @MoonGlow181 says above, I think I probably count as a 'Neo Hippie', not being old enough to be around in the 60's. I was searching for images of previous People's Marches for Climate Change, and when I saw a lot of the people there, it made me think maybe there are more modern neo hippies around than I thought. It's good to see them.

It's like having a free spirit and yes, pacifism..
long hair is cool , but long hair, love beads, and patchouli do not a hippie make
Just that stuff might make someone a poser.
It's facing life with an open and caring heart and love.
It's swimming against the current and taking life as it comes, for better or for worse, with a grin.
It's being willing to help anyone you can even if it inconvenient or difficult
    Shine on, young one.
With love from one of the old ones
