I know that you will likely see it differently, since you are another one to thrive on being contentious.

 

libertine, i enjoy the hell out of you, but seamonster could be right. you get too angry when people disagree with you. it doesn't really win people over, you know? pavel is a smart guy who's lived a lot of different places and experienced a lot of life. he's not really aggressive so much as painfully forthright with his opinions. he's a lover, too. but he doesn't agree with your style AT ALL, or your opinions. that's all.

Those comments are not issue disagreements, these are ignorant personal attacks. Ignorant, because he doesn't have any idea of what I do; and personal because they are aimed straight at me as a personality, not the overall issue.

I am surprised that you couldn't differentiate between an attack on me personally and a disagreement of issue.

I'd hate to have you moderate a debate (no offense).

This fellow has consistently attempted to antagonize since I've been in Hippyland. Consistently.

I really don't care if you or seamonster see it, it is a fact. BSR has had nothing but smart (aleck) remarks through my entire existence here on HF. And it's about time someone called a spade a spade.

 

you really shouldn't let yourself get hurt by nonsense like that. people get heated on an issue, things come out. let it roll off your back. pavel rocks, and i totally disagree with him a lot. but he's a good guy.

 

Personal attacks have no business in a debate of the issues, and besides the Forum guidelines frown upon such behavior- AND FOR GOOD REASON- this is "HIPPYLAND", not "Asshole Land."


Granted, we all bitch and gripe and get crazy at times, but this is a CONSISTENT thing with him towards me.

I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but BSR has been antagonistic towards me from the beginning ... with no good reason.

I even PM'ed him and asked him what his beef with me was... NO RESPONSE...yet.

Is THAT being hostile? Is that being hurt or angry? No.

It's merely wondering why the hell this dude has held a grudge with me from the beginning. Because I don't have a fucking clue as to why.

Dropping food isn't a good thing. Aid like this, barring in emergency situations, destroys their domestic agriculture. It's a technique to make them dependent on America and at the same time subsidies your own horribly uncompetitive agricultural sector. Don't feel so good about yourself.

Then your allies would often be overrun with tyrants and authoritarian governments. And while most of these allies are criminal states, they aren't all, and some people benefit greatly from the defense.

I've never met anyone who gives a shit about strangers smiling at them.

There is a direct correlation between the amount of help and services the government offers and how much much voluntary unemployment you have to support. Giving people excessive handouts makes people lazy, whether you look at it from a macro level or your 25 year-old son you let live in the basement rent free.

Listening won't solve the underlying problems that cause crime; all the attentive ears won't make the poor richer, the uneducated useful, and broken homes whole.

While I don't support video games, I support hugging even less. Little boys need to be less effiminate, not more.

Then American culture, based largely on excessive consumerism, would collapse like a Mexican-built front porch.

People do cry at funerals, but not every death is a tragedy.

Basically, it drives me crazy when people confuse ignorance and naivety for being a good and competent person.

but i'm just trying to find some way for you to not get hurt over bsr's posts. i'm not attacking, nor have i ever. but wherever you find people, you'll find conflict. perhaps you're just a little too thin-skinned. i know you're a smart guy, a passionate sort. but toughen up a little. we can't be losing another person just because someone doesn't get along with them.

 

No, it's just that I've been here too long.

I've watched this place change too much for my taste.

It's lost it's beauty and become overrun by cynics, smart-alecks, and just general asshats.

I'm sick. I'm tired. And most of all, extremely disappointed.

This is just fucking depressing as hell.

 

it went from being a protected enclave to being the world at large. it's more representative of the general population, i think. but good is still being done.
