What if your god was just the way you wanted? What if your god gave you everything you wanted? What if you could choose your god the way you choose your friends?

Would atheists believe in god then?

If people don't like the way their god is behaving, do they change their god in for a different god?

It is said, that you can choose your friends, but you don't get to choose your relatives.

So are the different religions offering different gods? If you don't like the Catholic god, maybe pick the Baptist god...or the Methodist god....or the Muslim god...or the Hindu god(or gods).

Is one god really better than another? Or is it silly human perceptions of the way they want reality to be?

What if there were as many gods as there are religions?

What if you choose your own reality, so that if you believe that when you die you just turn into worm food, that's what happens? Or if you believe you deserve to go to hell, you do? Or if you believe you can be an asshole your whole life, and god will let it slide?

Like Hitler believing that he was a Christian, so he went to heaven.

Or does everyone eventually have to face the truth?

to my way of thinking....all is in symbiotic relationship of some kind, and there would not be one standing over and ruling everything.....the "god" is energy that runs through everything.....imo

With fairy tale notions, my world would have no predators......no sufferings......etc......

With picking friends.....they have to pick me, as well, or it does not work.....has to work both ways, and be in harmony of some kind......

Well if an atheist is to play along, by the very nature of the questions they would believe in a God.

If I believed in a God and it could do what I wanted, it would be like a Genie God with no set limit on the wishes I can make.

This is a much more interesting question to me, at least the choosing your reality part. Perhaps in the future I could even see really detailed virtual realms that people could interact with but in regards to the afterlife, that would be interesting if it played out like that. What would happen to those who formed no opinion of death by the time it happened, either just not really thought about it or cannot really think about it, like a infant for instance?

Why "what if"? People choose their gods all the time, convert to different religions, follow gurus, whatever.

In my opinion atheists are more against religions than gods. A god is a god. Religion is always made by people.

I don't understand how that truth is to be realized . Should I have to die to find out ? Probably I know
how to die , and peacefully , dreamily so .

You can choose your own god and your own belief system. In fact you can also combine from all faiths the ones you wish to live by and go and live a good life.

Alan Moore chose his god, a long-haired snake called Glycon, he said he chose him from out of all the gods because he had lovely hair and a charmingly smug expression on his face.

I choose Palgolak from the Bas-Lag series of novels by China Mieville. He's a god of knowledge depicted as a tubby man in a bath who floats through existence looking at interesting things. His churches are libraries.

Some of these labels can seem a bit superfluous but being against religion is more an antitheist position.

Eventhough the rhetoric of some of the notable "new atheists" is against religion, atheism doesn't have to be against anything, it's just a lack of belief in God(s).

RJ quote - Like Hitler believing that he was a Christian, so he went to heaven.

for one thing hitler may have thought he was catholic - and catholics do not believe people go to heaven or hell but rather spend a long time in purgatory - also give references - they are good for your own muddled thinking as much as for us to keep clear

we all choose what we pretend to know about what isn't known.
its the same god/ess or bunch of them, its what we choose to think we know about them that is different.
the possibilities, if there are limits to them, we don't know what those limits are.
