That just goes to show how stupid NASA is.. They know the life cycle of a star, so why the hell would anyone want to live on Mercury when it's going to be engulfed by the sun?

That's just stupid... I can't believe NASA would have suggested something so asinine... :afro:

Is it asinine? Maybe it's not for colonization? Perhaps research? I think the moon is a great staging site, then Mars. I think that colonizing Mars is a great idea.

Colonizing Mars is of course an awesome idea... But the rest? Not so much :p

NASA is really the laughing stock of the scientific community now... Kind of sad.. The fate of mankind rests on that crappy NASA photo.../ plan.... :afro:

just curious, why would we want to colonize mars when it has nothing to support life on it?
Wouldn't it take eons of work before it could ever hope to be colonized?

Human settlement of Mars in 2023

Mars One will take humanity to Mars in 2023, to establish the foundation of a permanent settlement from which we will prosper, learn, and grow. Before the first crew lands, Mars One will have established a habitable, sustainable settlement designed to receive new astronauts every two years. To accomplish this, Mars One has developed a precise, realistic plan based entirely upon existing technologies. It is both economically and logistically feasible, in motion through the integration of existing suppliers and experts in space exploration.

We invite you to participate in this journey, by sharing our vision with your friends, by supporting our effort and, perhaps, by becoming the next Mars astronaut yourself.

    You never know.

It doesn't have to be like this:

Isn't this the way the story behind the video game DOOM starts?

well, doom's about 20 years old, so what you do "anymore" isn't necessarily relevant.

StreetFighter started in 1987. I stopped playing video games in 1989.

Ok, seriously - it wasn't meant to be 100% factually accurate. Just an indication that I don't play video games anymore, and my knowledge is limited. I didn't realise 'Doom' was so old. I have heard of the game before. I've not been in a coma for the last 23 years.

Ok-now BEFORE you all tumble over yourselves in desperation to speed-type,I am already aware that my thoughts and my ability to iterate them do not match.

However [takes deep breath] it is estimated,NOT by governments, but by people who have a real interest in such things, that the 'dinosaur' age was approximately 160 million years. The end of the last era was circa 65 million years ago.

So,225 million years [approx] from 1st to last.
Environmental damage done in that time?
    Negligible.

    Right.
Previously to that we had the Cambrian Era,closely followed by Proterozoic times.
    Yuss. Rodinia,Gondwanaland and,it's thought,Nuna-all supercontinents.

Now obviously,Trilobytes & Liposomes didn't need 'The Wheel'-so we'll put them to one side, for the moment.
We'll also zip through the Ordovicia, and Silurina eras,[when vertebrae were becoming popular accessories],to the late Devonian period,when....vertebrates were pootling around ON LAND...ON LEGS YAAY-We're getting there!

Ok-so now we're into the Pennsylavanian era, when synapsids and diapsids appear.
Ok-the diapsids become reptilian and bugger off to the soggy bits.
The synapsids tootle around trying to grow thumbs......
    Then...TA-DAAH...around 6 million years ago,'Australopethicus' arrives!
    A biped,tool-using hominid. [still not much of a looker,though]

This hominid spends a while perfecting his act, until 200,000 years ago,the 1st RECONISABLE humans appear near the Kibish River,in Ethiopia.
[good of 'em to leave all those skulls, remains, etc lying around to be dated alongside local sediments, don'tcha think?]

Right,so around 40,000 years later, they decide "Seen enough of Ethiopia, dude" and they bugger off around the planet.
So-that's circa 160 thousand years ago, according to the experts' studies, paleontologists, geologists and in general, people with MANY more braincells than moi.

BUT,what this means is that from the first satisfied "Ook" as a stone was used to crack open a nut,to today-in a mere 160,000 years,we humans have done more damage to this planet's ecosystem than the previous inhabitants did in 160 million years.
    [I say 'WE'...I mean,of course,YOU! S'not MY fault!]

    Skyscrapers,nuclear bombs,taxes,nerve gasses,missiles,sewage dumping,landfill sites,jumbo-jets,plastic wrappers,fossil fuels,etc.

And to think-that Neanderthal teenager though HE was a rebel when he put hand-prints on that cave wall in Spain,40 thousand years ago!

So-if plates shift,ice-ages come/go,continents collide,volcanos/tsunamis/hurricanes/viruses wipe out populations, meteorites strike, asteroids follow them, our Sun farts and takes out our magneto-and-ionospheres,turning the atmosphere into a raging fury of burning oxygen annihilating all burnt-to-a-crisp lifeforms [except cockroaches & the Immortal Jellyfish,natch]....why NOT start again.....but this time get it right?

And;if this is NOT the only rock capable of bringing forth imaginative life in this vast void, then perhaps they did exactly that.......

which is why they await Humanity's '2nd dawn' in silent observation.........

So we've done lots of Damage to the planet...

And who knows... We probably have wiped ourselves out 7 times over by now for all we know...

There are ruins on the seabed that are said to be 60,000 years old... So... You be the judge...

What i want to know are where are the bodies? You telling me that these past civilizations that got destroyed, left the ruins, but there are no human remains at all? WTF happened to them? Where did they go?

Ah... The old Inside the earth people theory.

The entrance is supposed to be in Antarctica.

I wish I could pull up that google map image for you, but I'm sure you can use Google Maps..

If you go toward the center of Antarctica, you see very high elevations, and then it slopes down to 0 feet above sea level in the center? WTF... Is it a literal south pole? Or is that the entrance to the inside of our planet? :afro:
