So yeah, let's talk about reality. What reality is religion failing to shelter Christians from? The implication of the phrase "illusion of shelter", along with your analogy of the submarine and the screen door, would imply that you believe religion does not provide actual shelter from reality. Yet you frequently refer to Christians as delusional, which would imply that they are successful in sheltering themselves from reality.

I could quite easily have guessed that that would be FedUp's answer. But why should I assume? Why shouldn't I credit him with a unique, non-generic opinion about Christians (and presumably other religions, although I noticed recently that he doesn't spend much time in the other religions' forums), instead of assuming he was the stereotypical atheist, convinced that they are privy to reality despite being basically the same mutable sack of nerve endings as anyone else. I'll be less considerate next time.

You do not say "reality". You do not, in fact, say anything. You say that it is delusional to think that religion offers shelter, yet you do NOT say that it is supposed to offer shelter from reality. You are simply lying every time you assert that you have said this, because you have not said it.

Also, your argument is cyclical anyway; you are basically (now) asserting that Christians are delusional for thinking that their religion can shelter them from the "reality" that their religion cannot provide them shelter from "reality." The point is moot because it refers to itself.

And since you have so consistently asserted that Christians are delusional, I fail to see how you can assert that their religion is failing to provide shelter from reality (as implied by the "illusion of shelter" and the screen door analogy); if people are delusional, surely they are succeeding in sheltering themselves from reality!

We find critics in newspaper editorials, we find critics in sports commentaries, we find critics in government, in schools, in business, in the workplace, criticism is part of normal life.

But getting back to your own beliefs and wbld's: What do you believe about reality and meaning, what it's all about, where we are going, etc.? Are you ashamed or embarrassed by your beliefs? Do you simply not have any and find it easier to put down others"? Is that why you dodge these questions?
