what i dont get about some insurance plans ive been on

you can go to health care clinics, usually run on donations and such. if you look them up in your community, they're there. some go based on your income, so you end up paying maybe $10 - $20 as a donation to the clinic. now that i'm not totally broke and actually have insurance i don't go that route, but i still give them money whenever i can to keep up the system.
