    Staying consistent with work outs
    Sex
    Over the counter sleep aid

And having the same night time routine every night, if possible.

Insomnia sucks! When you’re laying there try and stay awake - actively trying to sleep only leads to frustration

i haven't figured it out yet. usually i sleep great, sometimes i sleep awful, and there doesn't seem to be any real cause for either.

sure, there are things that almost always wreck sleep: stress, alcohol, knowing i have to be up early, asshole construction workers smashing concrete directly outside your bedroom window super early in the morning when you're extremely hungover (this only happened once), but sometimes there's just no reason and sleep just doesn't come. or more accurately, it comes and then goes away way too soon.

I take a prescription muscle relaxer because I have Fibromyalgia. There's no way I can stay awake after taking that pill. I can't even walk straight on the way to bed.

First you need to find out what is the reason for this, than you can apply the remedy

For me it was the pillow & stress

I sleep weird so maybe I'm the wrong one to give advice. I go to bed as early as 8:00 PM PST sometimes. It's still light out in the summer. But I've been doing this for maybe a little less than a year now.

As someone else has already mentioned, getting a workout physically during the day can influence it quite a bit. I think to a certain degree it depends on what you are doing prior to sleep time too. For instance I had a therapist in recent years who told me that playing video games before bedtime will keep you awake more. It's like an alarm clock for your brain or something. She recommended reading.

Lastly, I would say one of the worst things you can do for your sleep cycle is stay up late watching TV. Go to bed! :)

As others have said. Exercise. Start with that if you’re not already doing it on a regular basis.
Yoga is fantastic. Learn to empty your mind and relax your body.
I like to focus on a single thing that makes me happy, because I have a busy mind, and have trouble slowing it down for rest.
I’m a avid cyclist. My favorite technique is too reflect on my bike ride that day. I try to visualize every minute of it. I’m typically asleep before I finish.

Just take a television into the bedroom and watch a film on one of the commercial channels. You are almost guaranteed to fall asleep during the first few advertising breaks.
The better the film, the more likely you will be to fall asleep and miss the ending.

Running helps and also reading a book if I wake up during the night.
