So I was supposed to graduate in my one year taught MSc in 2018 but I missed one module. Because of I missed that it meant that 5 credits were missing so I couldn't graduate the next year (this year). So what's the best way of putting that on my CV? Should I put it as 2017/2018 seeing as it was only one module? If so, there's the chance they might notice that the year mentioned on any requested transcripts is 2019? and wonder why I let on that I graduated the previous year. Or could I put down 2017-2019 and let them think that it's a two year masters? I already have a gap year between my undergrad and my masters. And we all know what that implies! So it really won't look good if they see that it took me two years to complete a one year MSc!
I agree with Neon. Their is more to a person than just written qualifications, so concentrate on the points that would make you desirable to the company who you are applying to and the relevance of your degree to the post that you are applying for. Both professional and social interaction, along with the ability to apply your knowledge is far more important than a scrap of paper.
i have absolutely no clue what that implies. that you took a year off to backpack around europe? obviously when asked for your graduating year, you put your graduating year. you didn't graduate from 2017-2019, so i don't know why you would put that in there anyway. i got my master's six years after my bachelor's, and nobody has ever questioned that.
That I went looking for jobs and I couldn't find any, so I said I'd better go back and do a masters to better my chances.
i think you might be the only one who would read it that way. lots of people take a gap year or more. even if they do think that, i'm not sure that it's really a bad thing. it shows that you didn't give up and you took steps to make yourself a more qualified candidate.
Aren't employers sensible at all? Like, if they read that it took two years instead of one, are they just like, "Oh my God, what an idiot! He must be so slow!" Or are they like, "Maybe he took a year off." But then are they like, "He must have taken a year off, that lazy sonofabitch!" Gee...
Tis Simple.....Why Not Explain It To Them In The Same Terms You Have Described It To Us.....???.. Cheers Glen.
I Didn't See It That Way......I Thought My Reply Was An Honest And Down To Earth One...... I'm Sorry You Saw It Otherwise..... Cheers Glen.
you're looking at it all wrong. you keep the two year graduation dates, but you change your masters to a doctorate. you might also want to throw a couple nobel prizes into your awards section too.
