<3 portal is great working them out and portal 2 has so many use made puzzles and the dialogue is so witty and funny :) the game i mostly play these days is Ark: survival evolved , ticks most if not all of my boxes I ocassionally go onto 7 days to die but after windows 10 it is slugish at the moment for me. I have dipped into minecraft a game i brought ages ago mostly due to streamers i watch, find it interesting. I dont need to waffle on about minecraft tho everyone knows of it.

In Fallout, I just had a robot with multiple personalities programmed suggest that I have penises coming off my foot. If that doesn't make a game an instant classic what will? :D

It's a fun game, really detailed in terms of your inventory, skills you can develop and various interactions you can have with people, robots and things but a bit slow with a lot of load time.

    But console?
Viva Las Vegas for sure and all but,,, but,,,,,, PC!!

    http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/?

Skyrim and the Fallout Series have definitely made it a pleasure to have done a recent reformat, still need to reinstall but thinking of grabbing a new ssd drive for the process.

Stuff like this is the exact reason why I have a console for gaming. I never have to update any hardware for either console or pc.

Thats right, you need to buy a whole new console.

I play em' fine on full settings as it is

But still,,, 6TB of SATA 3 space currently, just wanting an SSD for virtually nill Seek / Access times for data

It's like the difference between driving a Jeep to work and driving a freaking Escalade. Either way you'll get there but only in one of those ways will your ass and side view mirrors be heated for you.

And for only $45 bucks I think worth it to pretty much NOT see loading screens for more than a few milliseconds.

People that are into playing new games on PC spend money on both hardware updates AND a new gaming pc after a year of 5 or 6. The new gaming PC is at least as expensive as a new console. Even if updating your game pc and buying a new one after 6 years would be just as expensive as buying a new console every 5 or 6 years (which it isn't, it costs more) I still love not spending any time or effort (let alone extra money) on hardware. I guess there are different options for different gamers. This option suits me big time. The slightly longer loading screens do not bother me.

Screw the Sandisc drive, get a Samsung Evo drive, a little more $$$, but they are the fastest available at a reasonable price right now.
I have a 120 and it's great, even on my old MoBo that only supports SATA II; the only thing on it is the OS and Skyrim...LOL
    http://www.newegg.com/Internal-SSDs/BrandSubCat/ID-1077-636?Order=PRICE

but either way an SSD makes a HUGE difference in load times while playing Skyrim, no stuttering as it loads the huge outdoor landscapes when I'm galloping at full speed.
as far as PC vs console, for any Bethesda game PC without question if for no other reason than the games are designed from the ground up to be modified by the end user and some of the shit folks have made is stunning.

Here are a few pics of a friends Fallout 3 custom character. Every thing about her has been tweaked and customized.

you do realize that most likely no applications you use are using more than 2 cores, maybe 4. I think some Beth games can use 4.
but a hex core cpu really is unneeded overkill if no operating system or apps use them.

with an SSD the initial load times will still be a few minutes because the game has to decompress the textures and "assemble" the game in memory, but the in-game transitions are close to seamless and at most only a few seconds for me depending on how complex the next scene loading is. Running outside, no stuttering.

I do, I actually have to edit the ini for the game to run smoothly or it trips itself up over how many cores there are, among other tweaks, 4 has been my "functional limit"

*I did not build this rig* (Now 4 years old and will still be a solid gaming rig in another 4-5, Asmo)
This rig is what happens when a Kid gets a credit card and is allowed to run into Fry's electronics to buy what "He wants" (What the salesman wants to tell him he NEEDS),,,
    Just note the ram,,, lololol

Not much of an issue on this rig unless I'm modded to the teeth even with the enhanced textures pack

But yea, not too worried about a minor difference in the SSD's seek / access time per brand when I'm going from a SATA 3, I'm not the one running around with someone elses credit card :D

    FRY'S????!!!!
    brave soul.

I get most all my parts from Newegg and build my own systems.
I'm running an old intel quad core and an aging video card, nVidea 550GT w/2 gigs and 16 gigs system ram and it still does what I want it too for now.
32 gigs isn't too much for a system today and is probably the sweet spot. I would say 8 gigs is probably the minimum, 16 gigs if you plan on gaming at all.

32 Gigs is still insane for Windows 7, twice what it will access.

I wouldn't exactly call Jr. "Brave",,,, as far as who the credit card belongs to & took them shopping however,,,

About all I can do is stand back, watch, and be ready to save perfectly good shit from becoming a doorstop.

Any parts post-build have come from Microcenter, they do usually have good prices for a brick & mortar shop.

Been playing Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past once again, from the beginning. Why? Because I set up a raspberry pi 2 to function as an emulator console (and Zelda is like my favorite SNES game). Installing RetroPie gives you a decent interface that works with only a controller connected so you don't need a keyboard to operate it. I just login via SSH to do any editing of files or anything heavy.

I will have to say, it is quite a nice solution. Its running Raspbian, pretty much just an ARM build of debian wheezy specially for Raspberry Pi, so you can do pretty much anything you can do on any other linux machine. It can run other operating systems as well. I actually kind of expected it to be a headache to set up, and was surprised that it "just worked" as well as it did.

just an FYI about CPUs and memory: 32-bit cpu has 32-bit pointer size so max memory that can be addressed without Physical Address Extension is 2^32 bytes ~= 4GiB. 64-bit cpu has 64-bit pointers but the address bus is never actually 64-bits wide. It actually only has 48-bit addresses on most (all?) AMD64 cpus because 2^64 bytes is a huge amount of memory and will never actually be reached (at least for the foreseeable future) and would be a waste of die space, which is the reason I assume that 64-bit addresses are not implemented. 2^48 bytes is still a lot of memory, and probably still won't be reached for a long time. AFAIK there is no reason that the architecture couldn't support 64-bit addresses in future chips.

The general purpose registers are 64-bits wide (though there are some registers that are bigger, the extra bits can be used with certain instructions), which means that arithmetic operations on 64-bit integers can be computed in one instruction. The consequence of this is that programs will actually consume more memory than they would for a 32-bit CPU because it takes twice as much memory (8 bytes instead of 4) to store the pointers. SIMD instructions can speed things up on 64-bit since the CPU can store 2 32-bit integers in a register and compute them both in one instruction. 64-bit doesn't always mean faster though, some programs only deal with small integers and won't really see any benefit from the wider word size, and storing small integers in a 64bit type is just a waste of memory.

That's what I like the most in Portal 2, the epic single (and multiplayer) storyline. Tons of fantastic user-created puzzle maps out there too. Portal Stories: Mel is really good for a user mod. Storyline so far matches up to Portal 2 in terms of quality. Voice acting is just a bit off, but it keeps you hooked. Though I can't get past one of the puzzles for the life of me.

Windows 10...... I think it's garbage. I would LOVE to play some Ark, but my comp is OLD.

Personally, I refuse to play Minecraft. I used to play Terraria... A LOT. Which is essentially Minecraft in 2D. I bought it for PC and Android, but the only one I've been able to get into was on PS3. Pisses me off there's no controller support for PC. Each system has it's own unique in-game items, which is great, but it also makes it to where saved games are incompatible between consoles/PC. I'd sit for hours looking up pixel art and cross stitch designs and build them in the game. PC is also further in development than any of the console versions. If only there was controller support!!!

If I started playing Terraria in 3D (/Minecraft), I'd never leave the house.

    EVER.

What the hell kind of Fallout are you playing??? I don't remember that! :D

Unless you're running mods on PC. There is a SHIT TON of mods for Bethesda games.

Been playing Majora's Mask here with updated hi-res textures. I bought the game wayyy back but never got around to playing it since the time limit thing threw me off. It's actually a really good game! A lot of reappearances by characters in Ocarina of Time. (I mean a LOT. But they don't all act the same and it still feels like less of a mod and more like a different game altogether)

My next project is to softmod my old original Xbox. That is, if it still works. I'm excited about it! Just need to get some hardware in order to do it.

home "premium" 64 bit,,, no dice :/
(I did mention the "Kid with Grandpas Credit card" right? lol )
Makes a better PC than a doorstop at least.(At least till I get hands on a copy of Ultimate)
I mean I'm not gonna complain about the fact Jr pretty much bought two strips of backup ram, it's a decent mainboard and Vid card at least.
