It's too bad our hippie ideas vary so greatly. ..................but I don't want to just live.. I want to change the world.

I don't know what it's like to be a youthful hippie in today's environment, but in the sixties , hippies attracted bullies like flies to shit. We were constantly put down because of our beliefs. We were called long haired fags ,girls were just free loving sluts and we all were peace loving ****** lovers . So life was never easy and for me it has never really changed. But I will always believe that love is the answer.

i wake up everyday, hung over or not and say out loud this will be a good day. if you think positive your day will turn out alright at the very least. i once was told a story, by my father im sure alot of you have heard it but ill tell it anyway a man was walking along the beach, he noticed there were hundreds of star fish on the beach and in fear that they would dry out in die he was throwing then one by one back into the water. another man walke up to him and said, "you know there are so many of those on the beach, you are not making any difference." as he throws a star fish into the water he replies " i made a difference to that one" he throws another "i made a difference to that one."

moral of the story, anything you do that is positive, no mater how small it is makes a difference in this cruel world. every little effort helps.

remember to recycle

sorry I haven't responded to you sooner, you are absolutely correct. Everybody should smile more. But as hippies, I think it should be more of a way of life and if we do smile more maybe it will spread and there will be more straight people smiling back.

yes once again u are right all u need in life is faith and then eveything else will come around... if you have faith that it wont rain... then it wont rain and you will have the best night of your life... it is just because you believed that it was not going to rain... and if you believe that war will be over... one day we will all be equal

i think we should stop listening to what people tell us to do...
why should i live my life based on someone else's standards, granted the suggestions are nice, but...come on...do what you want in life, because that's all that matters.

I'm not telling you what to do , I'm just telling you what I think .
It is your life, live it the way you want to .
Like you said it's just a suggestion and it's what this hippy does, he puts a smile on his face , to show the world all the love in his heart and prays that people will smile back. People just don't smile as much any more and it breaks my heart ........PAX

Well, I look at it this way. If I can say "Welcome, Brother" to a man I've never met, I can be proud to tell things to grandchildren who don't share my genes.

I started this thread because I believe that we should stop looking for a leader and realize that we are all leaders of the hippie movement.

i read most of this but i gotta ask..is smiling enough?

what about caring?
reachong out to a stranger in need
seeing someone hurting and doing whatever you cajn to yake away that pain
what about doing something good for your community..
whast aboyt sharing food with the hungry

if you see someone starving in the street or withdrawn or depressed from being abused what goods a smile gonna do them but piss them off more
love is in actions as well as words
ots in how u treat others not just how u go about your day smilling away like theres nothing wrong
sometimes there is somethi8ng wroing that requires you to do something..you can do it with a smile all you want but its what you do that makes a difference not the smile on youtr face but the willingness in yoiutr heasrt to do what u gotta do to help someone fond a way to a smile all theyre own
your smile doesnt increase the hapinness of someone living in misery, but lift them out of misery and hapinness increases all around

heres a prime example\

If a smile is all that you have to give- then no- a smile is not good enough. but by smiling and showing people the love in your heart, actions can only follow. I've seen so many people looking down on the downtrodden and frowning and blaming these people for their own misfortunes. It has to start somewhere.
What do you think is a good place to start?
I'm one who believes in karma. I think that smiling at people [especially those who are in a position of power ] with love in your heart will show people that there is more to life than just the almighty dollar.
How else is karma spread? Let's face it- the world is fucked: so let's start off with something simple. And hope it grows.

ps let's all become Johnny Appleseed - and spread the seeds of love thru a smile

wasnt implyuing that a smile and a hug wernt s good start..but theyre not enough sometimes u gotta put in more effort
let the love in you guide you to make sacrifices and give and do all you can..beyind just smilling

i like the seed idea..ypu wouldf be amazed at howe planting a few seeds can turn the most dangerouse areas iono the safest
but that also took aloyya digging and hard work..not just a smile
hell around there theyd shooyt uas for smilling unless u picked up a shover and avctualy did something real

I have no idea what you meant. I don't even own a cell phone, so texting means absolutely nothing to me.

Soaringeagle:
You'd be surprised how much power smiling has.
I still lived in the Haight back in '68 when violence was becoming an every day occurrance. I had a gun stuck in my face more than once. I didn't run or show fear - what I did was smiled and showed love instead. I changed that hatred directed at me into an apology.
Smiling at people here , more often than not they will smile back . But hugging strangers? that may get you shot. LOL
