That is my goal in life. That, and to attract the 10% that I might like.

the truth is that 90 percent of the world will judge you on that basis. Live in peace, but know the dorks do reign.

haha, that is my new favorite forums quote ever!

my dad does the same thing! He lectures me about how women shouldn't cuss and what's "appropriate" for women. It's sweet that they're concerned, gotta love daddies :)

my parents think that some of the threads i make r kewl..and they like them alot..but others they think r real funky and do not like them at all...i'll tell u what if i had dreads .. they would definetly think that i was a looser..my mom is a beautician..and she thinks they r nasty...i honestly think they r awesome..but i'm not sure if i could ever pull it off...i have thin hair...but...alot of people have them..so i'd probably stick to my natural locks if i could pull it off....

My parents don't really care.. although they hate my obsession with scarves. >.< They also like my hair really short so they always try to force me to cut it while right now I'm trying to grow it out. Crazy parents.

My friends also want me to dress more "preppy". But I don't really follow labels, I wear what I like. And what I like normally involves lots of pink and jeans and comfy sandles or clogs.

My mom is pretty accepting. She never says I CAN'T wear/do something, but she'll make it clear that she'd prefer it if I wore something else. She always wants me to take off my head scarves "because your hair is so pretty, don't cover it up all the time". And she doesn't like my patchy pants with frogs all over them. But I know she loves me no matter what. :-D

Heh, funny story... when I got my nose pierced, I didn't tell my mom about it. I wasn't planning on telling her until I went home to visit a couple of weeks later. A couple of days after I got it done, my mom called me at college and told me that my brother had gotten arrested (long story). I felt bad, but also relieved because I knew that if she freaked about my nose, I could just point out that I wasn't the one breaking the law, haha! And I was right! When she saw it, she said, "Natalie, if this is the only thing you're gonna put me through, you can get one in the other side!" And she said she'd love me no matter how many holes I put in my face. What a sweet mommy I have :)

My mom doesn't really care what I wear. Sometimes she'll tell me my skirt is too short or a tops too tight but never made me change clothes unless it was for school. She knows my style pretty well though and she will often pick up clothes for me when she goes shopping...so I guess she must not mind it too much. :D

My mom used to call me a flower child. She liked my style. :)

Nowadays, I'm a jeans-n-T-shirt kind of girl, I still like to be comfy, but I also clean up real good. ;) I can be a flower child one minute and wear an evening gown and heels the next. My hubby never has any complaints. :)

I dont really dress good or bad I guess, Im basically a black T-shirt and blue jeans kinda guy, I like to keep it simple. Mom complains about my long hair alot, she always says "If you go around with long hair and black t-shirts your teachers are gonna think you do drugs, and shop owners will think your gonna steal" (2 activities i have never performed) and shes always looking for excuses as to why I should cut it. Dad could care less, he says long hair just gets in the way when your outside working, but besides that doesnt really complain.

I love my folks like crazy, but they sometimes let me know that they don't like something I'm wearing. The thing they get onto me about the most is me wearing patchouli. Like the other night, I was going to a local coffeeshop and my mom told me to iron my skirt, put on a slip and that I looked like an orphan. I was wearing my patchwork skirt and blue jeans under it. Oh well, it's going to go over real big when I get dreads!

sarah, i LOVE your dreads. they are part of what make you SARAH! and sarahs rule :D

whoaaa, i just said sarah 3 times.

    now its four. woo hoo.

    okay im done :p

oooh, and about what your mom said, that your dreads scare off 90% of people. that isnt true, and whoever IS turned away by them, you dont need in your life anyways. so think of them as a way of weeding out all of the shitty, judgmental, closed-minded people. :)

everyone loves you just the way you are!

I think dreads are beautiful & I was going to get them done, but my mom thought they look "abnormal" or "weird." I think it's pretty sad b/c she just isn't accustomed to seeing people with different styles. She thinks I dress too casually, but it's not like I plan to go anywhere fancy & I just don't have the need to fit in with a fancy sort of style. For some reason, she doesn't seem to approve of the way I dress down with hoodies & jeans. I guess she's way to square to understand that I'd rather be comfortable rather than wanting to impress anyone.

my parents enjoy and respect my clothing etc, because they know i dont spend much money on them and that im always respectful e.g. dress respectivley for family events etc. I think they realise they cant control what path i decide to take in life, which is good they said they are treating me like a "semi adult" big step up from "youre still just a child" a year back. hahaha how times change.

Hah...you're lucky. :D I wish I could relate to that, but both of my parents are incredibly square & conservative. In fact, my situation is more like the exact opposite. My brother always seemed to have some kind of troubling crap going on (either with work, school, money, etc.) and my parents don't seem to care anymore. Well, before Thanksgiving break, I got my septum pierced & my mom totally flipped a shit. Not only that, but my dad proposed that I either get rid of the nose ring or be pulled out of college (seriously, wtf??) I mean, it would make more sense to be taken out of school if it was for a school-related reason. Anyway, now my mom thinks I'm in some kind of weird cult....:D...wtf...

my mum hates red, and thus hates 50% of my clothes, but I think she secretly gets entertainment out of seeing what I wear out.

that is cool how your parents and you have mutual respect.
I'm wrestling with my 13 y/o (on tuesday) about how Foamy the Squirrel is NOT appropriate for shul (synogogue) or holidays.
to see how inappropriate, see www.illwillpress.com and click of the foamy cartoons...esp the coffee ones...

now, i admit I got the shirt for him. ;P

grow it long enough to tie back and solve dad's concern.
I fried some bangs/fringe in a candle and I'm fighting with that lock of hair when I shoot pics outside.

My folks said as long as I did my own laundry and I didn't have too much skin out there, so what?
Today I am one of the more conservative dressers length and coverage wise in my family.
and I'm still an ol' hippie mama!

Interesting story, mostly to the point...I went to get my longer hair trimmed a few weeks ago, and the lady who trimmed it got a wild hair (pun intended!) up her ass, and decided to give me a "chic" haircut....AKKKKK! Well, I get a lot of compliments on it (and I can wash it, let it air dry, and it looks OK....that is the same as before), but I can't wait to get my longish, shaggy hair back...so many folks are saying that I look so much better, but I figure I must look a little more status quo, and they are more comfortable with that. Well, I'm having trouble with it!!! CAn't wait to get back to my shaggy, "nobody tells me how much they like my hair", hippy looking self!!
