only worse in that it did nothing to eliminate terrorism instead it appears to have fuelled it.. which was the obvious outcome and it created more instability and suffering for the innocent.
That;s-the-thing-Tony-BlIAr-dosn't-seem-to-understand. You-can't-just-supress-opposition-and-mask-problems....it-may-give-a-quick-fix-but-the-problem-is-still-there-and-needs-to-be-addressed.
Like you Lucysky i was a political activist many years ago trying so hard to make a difference... then anger and frustration sets in with the realisation that your voice is never heard...
I cannot tell you how pleased I am at the intelligence level on this forum! We are going through the same thing here in the U.S. regarding the I.D. cards. This is not a democracy, it is becoming a dictatorship!
Exactly, pabsy. Being a political activist does not help at all! Here in America, you are branded as being a traitor of sorts. Oz, I think you are onto something! LOL
In all fairness, what would you prefer? A prime minister who's actions are governed by public opinion? Coz if that's what you want, we'd have a PM who was all set to reintroduce hanging and nuke Baghdad. It's easy to complain about a politician who's motivated by his conscience when you disagree with him, but if he shared the same opinions you'd think he was the bees knees. Not that I like/trust the bloke, but I don't think it's fair to knock him for being driven by his conscience and ignoring popular opinion.
yeh-get-what-you-mean-on-a-personal-level. but-a-government-is-supposed-to-reflect-the-people....not-just-go-off-and-do-it's-own-thing-because-they-can. I-like-his-teeth-though
here too lucysky... i spent years on the activist thing...and except on local issues never made an impact on anything....on demonstrations i was so naive i never realized that the government kept a dosier on all activists...untill one day my work briefcase was stolen from my car and i spent 3hours in a police cell with a huge file about my activities being waved in my face???? so much for the peoples right to be heard???
No kidding, pabsy! That is too much! I don't think it is that bad here yet, but it's heading in that direction. Can I put you on my buddy list (once I figure out how to do that)? I have to leave in a bit, but I have enjoyed our discussions so much that I'd like to try to keep in touch.
I think Blair would have done a damn good job as primeminister, if it hadn't been for the war in Iraq. Hell, if it hadn't been for the presence of Bush. In terms of local issues, and poverty and such, he has outdone anything his opposition parties could have conjured up in my opinion, but the war in Iraq... I dunno, it seems he knows he messed up there, from the way he speaks about the subject. He won't admit it, no way, but I think he knows it was a terrible decision.
