Murphy's Law Irish Pub in NY is causing a stir with its dress code. I won't say what the controversy is, you can Google that easily enough. I was just curious what your unbiased opinion of it is. Here it is: DRESS CODE STRICTLY ENFORCED FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AFTER 8:00 PM NO flat, straight brim or baseball caps NO hoodies NO ripped jeans of any kind NO bandanas or doo rags of any kind NO BAGGY pants, jeans, shorts or sweats NO sleeveless shirts, tanks or jerseys NO white tees NO camo NO Timberland work boots of any kind PROPER PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED 21 AND OVER Incidentally, about 50% of the time I'd fail the no ripped jeans requirement.
I think it's fine to dictate what apparel is considered appropriate for your establishment. I've heard the "Jacket and Tie Required" thing and I think it's fine if that's what you have in mind for your place.
The only problem I've ever had with dress codes is not knowing about them beforehand. It sucks when you arrive in jeans and tennies only to find out that the dress code doesn't allow street clothes. I've been turned away one time; I can't remember where, and I think I just went home and didn't go anywhere else.
A guy goes into a restaurant/lounge wearing a shirt open at the collar and is met by a bouncer who tells him he must wear a necktie to gain admission. So the guy goes out to his car and he looks around for a necktie and discovers that he just doesn't have one. He sees a set of jumper cables in his trunk. In desperation he ties these around his neck, manages to fashion a fairly acceptable looking knot and lets the ends dangle free. He goes back to the restaurant and the bouncer carefully looks him over for a few minutes and then says, "Well, OK, I guess you can come in - just don't start anything."
I googled the controversy (unbiased opinion before I googled: establishments are free to set their own dress codes) I'm a little amused by the controversy because when I read the dress code my mind went in the opposite direction....except for the doo rags, I thought it sounded like they were trying to keep good ol' country boys out lol. Replace doo rags with orange clothing and there you have it
i'm assuming they're trying to keep out black people? that was my first assumption, and the last couple posts in this thread kind of confirmed it. is this even unique? i've seen similar dress codes posted on facebook by my more inbred friends, met with much praise by other various redneck types. personally i think it's pretty stupid, but it is their right as a business to set their own dress code.
I read their Facebook page and patrons say every club around has virtually the same dress code. The people are complaining that the entrance is up to the discretion of the doorman and that he lets in and keeps out who he wants, regardless of attire. Those people say the owner is a cool guy that probably doesn't realize what the doormen are doing. Actually, they are calling it more a place to eat than a club. I imagine it to be along the lines of the sports bars around here.
Even our Dollar General store posted No Hoodies or Hats and No Sunglasses. That was after they were robbed, though.
That just looks like standard club dress codes to me. It's a good think, keep the trash hoodlums out lol. I used to enforce that shit all the time in clubs. And dude go home and change your tracky pants bro, you look like a fool.
I Would Love To Reply To This TD.....BUT.....When I Replied To You In "What's Happening" A Few Days Ago........ Later In Post 10,336 I Was Accused Of "Sexual Harassment"....So It's Best I Remain Silent..... Cheers Glen.
I dunno, its up to the establishment what they want I guess. I'd look pretty foolish wearing that stuff anyway, except for the hoodie, I've been wearing them for 30 years.
