    we start as a fight of millions to get that prized womb spot
    it doesn't stop - the fighting - just because one is born
    it slows down but it gets more complex

    Maybe that's partly because when we became monogamous we replaced sperm competition with external competition.

    i think the basis of sperm competition is the
    may the best sperm win

    possibly without monogamy a better sperm would win
    outside the ring

    If you look at different primates some of them have external competition for females -gorillas being the prime example.

    Others like chimps and bonobos go in for multiple matings and the competition is between the sperms rather than the males of the species. Physiologically we are closer to chimps than gorillas.
