actually i did work at a grocery store for 8 years, and i never made enough to move out of my moms house. in fact the only reason i left was because of the money, i loved the job and the hours and the people i worked with. i still visit them sometimes when i go back to jersey for a weekend. but the pay is only good for the full timers and it looks like if obamacare goes through there will be even less of them to go around.
where i am now you can live on your own working in a grocery store but nobody that does will say the pay is decent.

    I install HVAC.

I started out years ago working on apartments, houses, and small businesses.

Next week I'll be installing the HVAC (100 feet in the air) for a new aircraft hangar on an Air Force base.

    /did I mention that I was afraid of heights!?..

I always thought that they made more than minimum. Were you in management? Maybe Ramona could quickly rise through the ranks since she has management experience. I dunno. There are lots of jobs that pay surprisingly well and don't require a ton of qualification.

Well one thing I noticed about people is that they are total suckers for their favorite shows. If Grimm is a future employer's favorite show, it would be very likely they would have a captivating interest in me. But as I said, it could be just wishful thinking, yet it's still possible.

Well TBH I am not much of a TV person myself and I'm not up to date on all the shows that are out there. And when I got the job, lots of my friends and family had never heard of the show, and at that time I had seen them film in locations around Portland, but never watched an episode until I got hired. So I was quite unaware of the magnitude of its popularity. Just because a show runs for a few seasons, it is not exactly a smashing hit. Because sometimes the viewing public goes through phases of bad taste and keep horrible shows on the air. But that's just my opinion though.

When i left i was making $8. So yeah more than minimum. $2. more than minimum for 8 years service and experience. The union did little more than take our money and try to tell us who to vote for. And being a manager is a decent gig if you can get it. I worked at a decent sized store and they had 4 managers and 40 something workers. It could be a long while before one of the managers already there leave so is it worth it to wait and hope one of them quit?

CFO for the company I work for and I also manage the human resource department. I am fortunate as I am able to use both of my degrees within the same company.

    Love it. :)

I worked the grocery biz for almost 8 years and yeah the pay was about the same as it is today but you got a lot more for dollar back then. To put in perspective I remember making $10/hr when minimum was $4.25 so I guess that would about $18/hr today. It wasn't great money but looking back it's hard to believe that people today are actually working for that kind of money with rents and other expenses being what they are.

You don't have time in life. Most people are out on their own by age 20 and with no job, no rent, no food etc, people need to work, man. Work creates life experiences and learning curves too. I'd learnt so much from age 15-20 working different jobs, I learned about people mostly because when your 15 you don't hang around an older crowd, so how you going to deal with them when you need to? It's why apprentices are easy targets. They're young, they don't know anything yet. You know how lets say as an example, a bar girl pours a drink and the drunk man has a dig at her because it's the wrong drink. Girl gets upset and runs away crying (happens a lot in bar industry). A matured person wouldn't cry, they'd probably tell him where to go or cut the guy off completely because they've dealt with it before through the experiences of work. A 20 year old shouldn't be crying over something so trivial but with no work, no experiences, no idea how to deal with people.. They'll be crying.

To say that people don't need to work and should be enjoying a hippie life sounds good in theory, but I've never met anybody other than myself and my girlfriend who's said "nah, don't need to work". We don't work because my girlfriend like me worked very hard while she was younger and things fell in place and she now has a LOT of money because of it and well now I smoke weed every day and live a pretty decent non working lifestyle all because a young women knew the importance of a job.

You want to live free in peace and harmony like you say, do what we did, work, save, invest - never work again. (Unless you love horses so much like I do and get paid to be around them and ride them etc. a paying hobby, that's the shit.)

I didn't say that at all :0. I work about 3 jobs at any given time...I just don't think this crazy emphasis on work is healthy. I think we start kids too young.

Yeah really, our society seems to worship work. Even when we're not workinn we watch tv shows about people at work: cops, spacemen, fbi agents, people on the job. It's like we can't get away from it.

I see both sides of it. There are a lot of young people in florida with trust funds or rich parents, who don't do shit with their lives and are basically worthless. They don't know how to work hard and earn something on their own.

But on the other hand I've been working non stop over half my life. I remember being 15-16 and getting off work at 11, getting to the party or wherever and most of my friends had 11:30 curfews. So I hung out with older people and got into the stuff that goes along with that, probably grew up too fast and missed being a fuck up of a kid.
