Only books, I've recently run out of shelf space and they are piled 4 rows deep on my mantelpiece. When I move places, I'm planning to donate them all to a nearby prison.
How nearby? Oh damn you said prison.... JK My mantelpiece is also already full. But when I move places it is for a large part to acquire more space so I don't have to get rid of anything.
Some are on the floor to be fair, turns out 4 rows is the point at which the stack loses structural integrity Aye, looks like I'm more likely to be downsizing, I think.
I have too many collections, honestly. A lot of them I don't add to much these days. I started a rubber duck collection in high school and a teddy bear collection. I lost most of both of them in a fire. I still have quite a few duckies at my house, but I don't collect them nearly as much and I don't collect teddy bears at all. I have a Matchbox and Hotwheels ambulance collection that I add to every chance I get. I collect Yoshi stuff, Coca Cola memorabilia, and most recently Snoopy themed items.
Ramona, I know. I amassed a beanie baby collection that sits in my shed now in plastic containers to protect them , piled high in a shelf in there for me to look at when I go in there and wonder what ones are behind the containers in the back because I can't get past all the boxes that are in the way from the door....mostly boxes from my mom's that I still need to unpac and deal with. I unpacked many boxes already at the time and then just quit. I need to get back to those again this spring when it gets warmer again. Anyway, I am happy the beanie collection is there....and I did not get rid of it..,.all those animals and happy smiling faces still waiting for me. And boxes and boxes of a Barbie collection in the basement, strawberry shortcake collection, American girl stuff, lalaloopsies, living dead doll collection and on and on.... I just went through a lot of those things recently and I am like a little girl in a candy store when I do.... Stuffed animal collection including snoopy, a comic book collection and the Archie character dolls....etc, It is all fun and happy stuff. I have my own toy shop here, too, when I need gifts for children....makes shopping easy sometimes. :d
Some things I will always keep, though. Am selling a lot this year.... Little by little...the bjd dolls right now. Oops sold right away at the price I listed her for. Stupid me. Lol
I can't believe I forgot my Beanie Baby collection! It has a really special story behind it. I collected Beanie Babies when they were the thing in the late 90's and early 2000's. I don't know that i had more than 50, but they were all on display at my parents' house. There was a house fire that took everything I left at their house in the summer of 2014. This past summer, the high school head coach and his wife moved away and they gave me their (now grown) kids' Beanie Baby collection. A lot of the ones I lost are in there plus some I never had but always wanted. It's really awesome they did that for me.
Fires can be awful. i am so sorry that happened to you, but am happy that you were given another collection. For awhile, you could not give them away...the market was flooded......but I am glad I hang onto them...i know they will make a come back, someday, and besides I love them I have tag protectors on all of mine, too....I take good care of everything I have.....
I have all my new ones in plastic tubs, protecting them from what I can for now. My husband just recently quit smoking so that opens up opportunities for displaying things now.
Plastic tubs...yes, that is what i mean, too. I did sell a few of the ones back then I had...ones I was not enamored with.....but not very many...It was the zodiac collection i sold. I wish I had kept that set, too.....but I have enough here for a lifetime of beanies. I still pick one up once in awhile in a CVS or something if it catches me...like the snoopy dog that when you press his tummy, you hear the song.....
and not to mention the few Beanie buddies i have...the trio dinosaurs set....Kiss bear with the kisses all over him..I think his name is Smooch or something like that for Valentine's Day and Cupid, the dog, Romance bear... .....a few of the bears, and 3 cats.....I think that is all I have of the buddies...I could be forgetting one or two of them. and remember the beanie kids? I have a few of those, too..... and beanie classics...holy shit...i was into them in the early 2000's.....
I forgot about kaleidoscope kitty beanie baby and Kooky buddy cat, and that is one I have upstairs in one of the bedrooms...the only one that is there....could be my favorite....
I have a few beanie babies hanging around somewhere. I got them when I was a kid so I'm sure the condition isn't great.
I used to buy beanie babies in bulk at yard sales and give them to a local nursing home so that they would have "prizes" to give out to people who won at Bingo and other games etc. If I told the yard sale people why I was buying them they would give me a great price for boxes of the things. I also used to buy things that were on the local Humane Society's wish list with the same result.
I have had small book collections over the years. In the '70s it was books on spirituality, plants & herbalism. In the '80s to the present it was picture books on Sexuality & Nudes, current and thruout history.
I just remembered my music boxes.....a small number of them...wooden boxes that serve as a box to put things in and play music if you wind them up and open them....I found a few at rummage sales.....and have kept them.......I never go out of my way to look for them, though, but I am forever finding them.... I will rememeber other things, I am sure.
I collect native american artifacts I find in dry lake beds. I got lots of obsidian and jasper arrowheads of different shapes and sizes, and a couple grinding stones.
when people say things that make me feel good, or just happy that they say them to anyone, i like to collect that people have. i usually can't remember who said what to whom, just what they said and glad, as the case might be, that they did.
