I call it 4th generation recycling for the most part.
I'd compare it to making copies of a video and each generation copied the quality is shittier than the previous one.
The basic elements are there but there's no passion, no originality.
It's been done before and it's been done much better..

i hate seeing this, everytime someone says they don't like a certain kind of music.

expanding your horizons doesn't mean you have to like everything. it just means getting out of the habit of listening to only one style of music. it doesn't mean you have to like it all. some music just plain sucks to some people, and that's the bottom line.

franz ferdinand, and the lot of those people are trying to cash in on a sound that was popular when they were in grade school. they're called "indie-rock" but it's pathetic, because they're all on fuckin major labels. they're not indie, at all.

and that fuckin emo thing is stupid, too. someone already said this in this thread, that emo started in the 80's. and the modern "emo" bands, are also just tryin to cash in on a sound they didn't help create. one of my favourite bands of all time, slint, has been called the very first, or one of the very first emo bands. and they sound nothing like your dashboard confessional, or anything like that. they actually played GOOD music, and didn't fuckin whine.

bleurgh! im so damn sick of this kinda music at the mo. admittedly, its a damn sight better than previous music trends, but a lot of it sounds the blimmin same to me...kind of boring to be honest (imo anyway).

i dont know about the US, but here in the UK this indie-pop-rock type stuff is poppin up everywhere... Kasabian, Athlete, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, ... i could go on...and on...and on....

i guess it wont be long till the next 'cool music' comes trotting along though...

I think it's unfair to a lot of interesting, musically diverse bands to say that "this generation's music" has only one style, not that I'm into the kind of micro-classification that seems to happen these days... Regarding the OP, I'm not particularly interested in the bands you named so I could care less what their style is called.
