I always wanted to ask. What do you Brits still do in Lammas Day? It was today. Did you even know that. In case you don't know, Lammas is a corruption of the word "loaf-mass". It was the day the first fruits of the harvest were blessed in a special mass. It still occurs in US almanacs because it corresponds to the time of year when Summer peaks. It's the hottest time of the year here, and also the so-called dog days of Summer. I don't know what the weather is like now in the UK and the rest of western Europe. I once heard in western Europe Summer begins May 1st. Is that true?
@Jimbee68 I'd not heard of it, it was an interesting read on Wikipedia finding out more about it. Possibly the nearest thing to it we do celebrate is the Harvest Festival: Harvest Festival (United Kingdom) - Wikipedia
