Farms and woodlands. My hometown was mostly rural but now it's all suburban sprawl. None of the old farms are there anymore, they've all been replaced with houses, condos, self storage places and shopping plazas.:(

I saw that as one explanation.
Others say that having positive ground meant that the spark plug tips were negative thus firing better with a 6 volt system.

The second part of the explanation made no sense at first, but then I realised that corrosion between the positive and the ignition coil, could have resulted in a voltage drop on the LV side. Many things get far more complex when you dig deeper.

Three blocks away was a movie theater with the Saturday morning kid show: cartoons, the serial (Sir Galahad dodged arrows), a double feature. A mom and pop grocery store on the corner. The doctor across the street had a pool table.

When we were kids, there were a number of parks we could simply walk to hit a ball around with a few guys - forget that today. The school ball field is locked up. Soccer fields are reserved only.

I'm confused. Very few, if any, answers correspond with the question asked.

Anyway, other than some specific mom and pop businesses, we have all the same things here as we do in my hometown. I only migrated about two hours from where I grew up, so culturally and economically, it's all the same.

This was my original reply and while it started out as answering the original question, it did transition into complaining about how the area I grew up in, no longer resembles the town I once knew.
    Proper answer...
The area I currently live in does not have farms and woodlands like my childhood area had when I was growing up.

I suppose that is true for me as well. I grew up in a rural area, near a small town, and eventually moved to a city of over half a million people.
