Steak Tartare. Mmmmmmm...

Which reminds me of a conversation I had with a French man many years ago in the late 80's in Tokyo when I was at an event where sushi was served:

Him: The Japanese are so barbaric with their raw meat. How can they eat this sushi?

Me: I know. No distinguished French man would ever let raw meat touch his lips. Instead he would eat civilized foods like, ohhh, Steak Tartare.

(He gave me a look.)

Him: Well... That is different.

(I don't think he talked to me the rest of the night)

The last time I told that story, me, my wife, son, and grand daughter had just arrived at our apartelle outside of Paris. It was actually a town a bit out in the country near Charles de Gaulle Airport. We were hungry but it was near midnight and everything was closed----except for a sushi bar----a very good one I might add that prepared some specialty dishes we have hardly seen outside of Japan. The owner spoke good English and loved to travel. He thought that was a pretty funny story.

 

Fresh caught dungenous Alaskan crab. All you can eat. It was amazing.

Crab is only good when it's fresh caught. Otherwise it sucks.

 

For Lunch Today.....A Turkey...Cranberry Sauce...Cucumber & Cream Cheese Sammich.....

Just About To Eat An Apple Pie For Dessert....

I ate an egg white omelette, and veggies.

 

Falafel pizza and lettuce, tomato and spring onion salad with vinaigrette.

For desert a small portion of vegan chocolate ice cream which was really very good.

I'm waiting for the German girl to bring me lahmacun. And I hope it will be worthy of this thread.

However, I didn't know we were going out for Indian food and thawed out some steaks. I guess I will have to throw them on the firepit around 10 or 11 tonight. My secret ingredient is copious amounts of garlic powder, including every time I turn them.

Ate that steak---it was delicious. Got plenty left to reheat for tomorrow.

 

It was a bit over done in places but it added to the nice crunch so the couple slices I had were really nice.

Gah it's upside down again I'll fix.
