Amazing! I never would have thought of that... thanks for the tip! And your headlights will never get bitten by mozzies
Today I am sweeping out the sand... the wind blows and the desert encroaches. Recent rain storm washed tons of sand from the roof into piles at the bottom of the downspouts...it should be dry enough to clear it out now. I spread it out in the street... which is sand anyway.
People will tell you: "Don't scratch those, you might get an infection" Me: "Fuck that, I'm ripping my fucking skin off..."
made bread made quiche sewed some of a blanket walked 4 miles banged my elbow really hard on the corner of a door swore a lot
I've seen some impressive ecosystems develop on unkempt rooftops, figure a percentage of that dust is some other guys topsoil (I've actually considered it as a potting soil for succulents as prickly pear loves the stuff)
Found some pictures of the first year on this piece of dirt for you Zen, April and May of 1984. Second one of the garden was most likely in June.
I went to work today! The extremely long day yesterday has taken a toll. I have no energy after 6pm lol I also got a wonderful body massage today. after 2+ years
Ha that is funny! Topsoil??? top sandy layer... is what it is!!! Oy vey, the roof... Our roof has steps from the second floor to the roof, which has a covered section with chairs and a table. The other half is open for walking around and enjoying the view. But the dust!!! It's about three inches deep in the corners. I need to shovel some of it off... the last rains did wash down a lot of it, but it would take a hurricane to totally clear off the roof. Sand is good for the cacti. We have several sticky things growing in our yard... in the sand. The cacti drink little water. The bougainvillea bushes however are water hogs. We do get a good crop of scorpions in the yard... fortunately I can keep them out of the house... and when they do invade the crawl over the magic chalk lines and get poisoned to death rather quickly. Ants, cockroaches, scorpions and spiders, what fun!
That stuff is great... active ingredient is Borax. (usually) When I had outdoor cats, actually "neighborhood cats" because everybody fed them. I used to draw a line around their food dish about 2 feet away. No ants in the catfood... "Magic" I can't find that chalk here but borax is available. Haven't had a need for it though.
When I worked in the Ozarks they were horrible. When our Ranger District sent a crew to work a fire in the Yaak River country of MT you could sport our crew at shower time by the rows of red chigger bites!
Almost finished the mulch and garden layout in the front yard, there is only one bed to mulch... This year. (There is a section that needs work, but that's probably not happening this year) Watered... I believe I'm in a drought situation here already this year, and I've got freshly planted stuff. So, watering will be the norm until they take. The only place I ever bought it was an oriental food store in Ventura CA... There were no english words on the package, just Chinese. It did have a picture of a cockroach on it.
