Today I made eggplant fritters and swiss chard in a garlic cream sauce. I piled the creamy chard on the fritters. It made a great sauce to liven up the eggplant!
That sounds delicious and must have looked amazing. We have to get you a camera! Your meals all sound so good. (Except for the string cheese. ). I can't wait until eggplant is in season. I'm gathering up recipes.
Hahaha yeah my phone is my only camera really and I try not to have it at the dinner table. Everyone here finds that rude. I should try taking more pics before it makes it to the table though. And don't knock the string cheese! It's funlicious!
(string cheese... *frowns*) French toast for breakfast today. I spazzed out sprinkling the cinnamon on the toast and overdid it a tad. It ended up better than I've ever made it. Guess I'll be adding more cinnamon from now on!
Next batch of veggies to ferment. I'm trying carrots for the first time. Just garlic and dill in that one. And more giardiniera - cauliflower, green zucchini, radishes, red bell pepper, yellow zucchini and garlic. The one on the far right has fresh basil leaves on the bottom, I saw that in a recipe I came across. So I'm trying one jar with the basil. I also did two more cabbage jars. I put cumin in one of them as per another recipe. No pic of those, I had to put them in my purple jars and you can barely see the contents because of the tint. Not sure how long I'll ferment the carrots but I'm going for about 8 weeks with the cabbage and mixed veggies. It will probably take me that long to finish the jars I have in the fridge!
I hate Cilantro! I haven't cooked today, yet. I'm thinking some kind of chicken. I have to go to the store first.
There is a small portion of the population that is genetically predisposed to hate cilantro. Does it taste like soap to you? If so, you are on of those poor, poor people. It tastes entirely different and awesome to the rest of us though.
If I get a tiny piece in something I eat out, I have grown to somewhat act like an adult and swallow it. The first time I tasted it I had to spit it out and I think I actually cried. I don't know about it tasting like soap but it definitely tasted like nothing else I'd ever had in my mouth before.
Sounds like you are one of those people. Soap is just the closest taste most people can think of I think I don't know if it really tastes like soap.
Root Beer has a similar effect on me. Once I thought I got Dr. Pepper out of a tap and when I got to the table and tasted it, it was Root Beer. I almost cried that day too. I like Root Beer Floats and Root Beer hard candies...I just don't like the taste of Root Beer soda.
We have different smell receptors or something. I don't know exactly how it works, but trust me, to the rest of us it tastes nothing like soap. Instead it adds an amazing brightness and depth to lots of dishes. It's a shame it tastes like that to you guys because it's my favourite herb.
My d-i-l puts it in her Lasagna. Great dish minus that, lol. I'm actually growing to be able to handle it, if I expect it. No surprise Cilantro for me!
I tried to make pork mince spring rolls and then when it came to the deep fry I had no oil, so I tried to pan fry. It tastes just as good but lacked that crunchy effect I so desire. I'm going to do a salad later, I like getting wraps and then moulding them to a bowl and putting in the oven. They crisp up and become your salad bowl. Then I like adding my salad in, lettuce, red capsicum, carrot, red onion, cucumber perhaps and cheese. Then I cook some satay chicken kebab sticks on the bbq, strip the meat, throw in the salad, throw in some ranch dressing and possibly bacon but not necessary and it's done. And you get to pick off and eat your salad bowl.
That's just uncalled for! I'd venture that the majority taste the soap and a few of you don't. Most people I talk to hate it. I think I've met 4 people who like it. Maybe your palates aren't as sensitive. How many drinks/tokes have you had before you dig into the cilantro? lol, I'm just pulling your leg.
Nope you guys are definitely the odd ones out! http://blog.23andme.com/23andme-research/cilantro-love-hate-genetic-trait/ not the best article about it but it had this fancy little chart so there you go. This article is better reading though: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/20/cilantro-aversion-gene-study_n_1901124.html And hah it suggests cilantro haters are the ones with the less refined palettes! Apparently there are something called aldehyde in both soap and cilantro, but they are different, so those of us who like it can taste the difference and you guys taste soap either way. Muahahaha do not call my palette into question madame!
