How did I miss this? I think I was typing up my post when you posted this. I'm going to look at your post while I eat my leftovers.
Ex, cornstarch is much easier than flour. Just add a couple of spoonfuls to a big shaker full of water. Shake it up and then stir it in your broth.
I also agree and use cornstarch all the time to thicken. Just make sure to use cold water to mix it in otherwise you are going to get a clump of glue.
Yes, do what Heat said. Use COLD water to mix with the cornstarch then slowly stir it into the hot broth or drippings.
I've used both cornstarch and flour with success using the cold water in a jar shake. I agree, cold water and the shaking make it. Another trick is to use potato water. If you've boiled potatoes for mashed potatoes for instance, use some of that water with cold water added, or let that water cool if you have the time. It adds more flavour and the starch from the potatoes helps thicken the gravy. And don't forget to constantly stir the gravy with a whisk as it thickens! We'll be awaiting results of your next (perfect) gravy!
Last night my sister and mom came for dinner so it was fun. I did one of those stuffed chicken breasts roasts with gravy and mashed taters. Cauliflower with a cheddar cheese bechamel. Tomato and grilled halloumi and a cucumber salad. Not sure why the picture is so washed unless it is because the light was on full in the dining room. Oh well
"(perfect gravy)"...you might be waiting a while to see perfect gravy made by me. How about edible gravy?
Thanks! The way I typed it made it look like it should be the way you fixed it. I accidentally put in a "!" where I needed a ")". I went back and made it right.
I had leftovers today. I'm thinking about what I'll take to Thanksgiving Dinner at my daughter-in-law's brother's house. There will be plenty of food but I want to bring a thing or two along. I think I'm going to make this recipe for Sweet Potatoes and Apples in the slow cooker. I loved them so much with the orange juice. I may cook them in orange juice and do the glaze with the apple juice like called for. http://eatathomecooks.com/2010/10/sweet-potatoes-and-apples-in-the-slow-cooker.html
I'm going to make cranberry sauce to take to the in-laws, also. I've never made it myself but it looks easy enough.
Tonight Mia had a friend over and requested roast beef. Did Yorkshire puddings, peppercorn gravy, baked candied squash, green beans almondine, herb roasted parsiesnne potatoes and a plate of tomato and cucumbers with lemon olive oil and white balsamic basil and mozzarella shavings. I am stuffed and tomorrow is going to be left overs.
That sounds good and it is nice to take something that does not have to go in the oven as usually the oven is already full.
Omg all the meals you are posting look so good! This one especially thought has all my favourite things in it. *drools*
You can with my blessing pull a family thing and come for dinner. They even request what they would like. You are welcome any time.
I've cooked the cranberries and they are delish! The meatloaf and butter/honey carrots are almost done. Those are for immediate consumption. I'll get the sweet potatoes and apples in the crock-pot shortly. I couldn't resist buying some fixings for dressing so I'll probably be cooking that...maybe in the morning.
