Listen to whatever music you enjoy. Being a hippy doesn't mean that you need to listen to certain bands, or wear certain kinds of clothes. It's a state of being, a way of life, and to say that someone is not a hippy because they listen to Sabbath is just rediculous.

if you're not rocking to The Flaming Headwounds, you are NOT a true hippy.

Dude, what does it matter? Just listen to whatever music you like, don't change the music you listen to just because it'll make you seem like more of a hippie.

    Ozzfest sucks in general. :)

I think being a hippie, or associating yourself with hippiedom, means that you should give yourself the freedom to listen what you like and not what is considered to be music that fits with the stereotype. Of course it's okay, and even applaudable, to break new musical grounds in for yourself unexpected directions. It was a small step for a Bart, but a huge leap for Bartkind when I first put a Tori Amos record on one and a half years ago, the first non-metal music I'd been voluntarily listening to since years. Nowadays I listen almost as much non-metal as I do metal.

Anyway, I recommend Marduk, Satyricon, and Taake. ;)

is musical taste not an expression of your state of being/way of life? obviously it is not black and white, but to deny associations is just ignorant.

Just listen to whatever you like... don't try to conform to being a hippie. Being a hippie is about being a nonconformist, not everyone listening to the same things. You should be open to all kinds of music, but don't just abandon Black Sabbath or GNR just because they're not "hippie" bands.
