I can think of plenty of people to send on a one way trip to Mars.
And save em the selection process costs.

On the project itself, I actually think colonisation will only really take off when there's some tangible benefit attached eg extremely rare mineral extraction or something like that.

However, this is a very exciting project.

I'm questioning the sustainability as well. One wrong step, and it seems they'd all be done for. I'm also curious about reproduction. Do they intend to reproduce? How would they expand to accommodate that? Is it ethical to birth children on a planet, and into a life that they didn't choose? I don't believe they've assessed reproduction in the mission yet, or if they plan on this being a one generation thing. The only way to be absolutely sure, would be to remove reproductive organs (not the actual genitals) before they deploy.

That seems like they're plan so far.

We don't even have the technology to full explore the depths and dynamics of our oceans... but hey we've shit all over this planet anyway, instead of trying to mend our ways and clean up the planet why not just split and find a new place to shit upon. boo

Indeed, so it makes equal sense to explore space as we can't get to the bigger depths of the oceans anyway. Yet, well perhaps never. It seems like a worthy effort to me anyway.

WIN! Ugh you need to finish the series so we can bitch about the ending.

Thanks! I'll let you know how I like it. :)

No one is getting an invitation. It's an application process.

True. It's a one way trip though, so I don't see the benefit of rare mineral extraction. What would they do with it?

You're right. The entire space program should have never been created. These people don't WANT to explore the depths and dynamics of the ocean. They instead choose to think outside the box....err....sphere.I don't think their intention is to relocate the human species. As far as I can tell, it's all in the name of exploration.

LOL at least we would have another outpost to defend. If we get there before anyone else that is.

You do realize we already have a rover on Mars already...right? :p

    It's not exactly uncharted territory.

They're actually going to make the final stages of the elimination into a realty show, which is kind of going to strip the mission of any credibility, imo. :/

I did not know that..yeah, the reality thing makes everything into a joke..ever seen a storage unit with a meth lab? I have, on storage hunters..lol..everything is so staged on those shoes, I could only imagine them exploiting this..

Well I suppose its bit like a variation on Celebrity Big Brother, but with additional new people every 2 yrs. Ontop of that, there's a "founding fathers" type thing. In time, they may be considered alongside the Pilgrim Fathers, Abraham Lincoln etc, as creators of a "new World". Eventually, it may actually be cheaper to live on Mars than Earth, so its basically a very long term investment... you could argue.

I suppose they could do most of the things we do on Earth. The only difference is the real time data delay. Many people live in small villages and have no desire to mingle outside of a small group - so it could be ideal for them.

My personal suspicion is that this project will try and tag along with some others. The cost assessments look a little low, just my guess.

I read something about the reality tv part, which make sense in a way because it generates money. But I did not hear about it becoming some kind of game show and also can't imagine they would send sick people to there. But I guess you are kidding :p
