I'm reading 'Beneath a Marble Sky' by John Shors. It's historical fiction based on the creation of the Taj Mahal. Very remarkable so far!

I'm presently reading "Antarctic Navigation: A Novel" by Elizabeth Arthur. It's so brilliantly-written that it's really tough to put down. It's so real that I find it almost impossible to accept it as fiction.

It's written in first person, autobiographical style, a woman telling her life story. There's more kewl things than I can even begin to describe, and I think I'll end up liking it even more than Kim Stanley Robinsons "Antarctica." In many places I laugh, in other places I learn. I'll probably say more about it when I'm done.

i've been reading Visions of Cody by Kerouac, but haven't been totally thrilled by it, so it's going slow. i'm thinking i might re-read the Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. i remember it being a cool book, but it was a good five years ago that i read it.

    Brave New World
    and
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
the first is like good porn for the genetic engineer,
while the second is a rather dissapointing update on the catcher in the rye.

I'm currently reading "Judaism: Between Yesterday and Today" by Hans Kung.
It's the first of three books (the others being about Christianity and Islam), and it attempts to open lines of communication between the Semitic Religions by showing our shared roots and similarities. I'm really enjoying the book, but I really appreciate the precept of what the author is trying to do... Which is help create peaceful dialogue between these very different (and at the same time, very similar) religions. I've learned a lot, and perhaps had my eyes opened about some things (don't tell anyone... heh!)

    "Women" by Charles Bukowski.

Good God, that man is BLUNT! It's quite entertaining once you get past the misogyny though.

Just finished "Another Roadside Attraction" by Tom Robbins. Amazing author. His books make me think and laugh at the same time.

    Currently:
"Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" - Tom Robbins
"Bagombo Snuff Box" a collection of short stories by Kurt Vonnegut.

    the tao of physics.
industrial society and its future: the unabomber manifesto.

I guess they're about to make a movie from one of his books. Or maybe they already did. Try Googling Roger Ebert. He's did an interview with CB.
Yeah, that dude is messed up, but he is definitely entertaining.

Right now I'm reading Hemingway, who I despise. Unfortunately I have to teach Farewell to Arms this fall.

    I wish I could teach Bukowski. :D
