i've been eyeing this for a long time but haven't bought it yet, primarily due to expense. but i hope to try it soon. i do like lambics in general, though the unly unflavored lambic i've tried to date would be boon oude gueze mariage parfait....i think i got that all in the right order...anyway, i like it quite well and have been meaning to try more unflavored lambics....i find them particularly fascinating at least, and the one example i've had was QUITE different from the fruit lambics i've had before, but very, very nice.

i've been on a gin kick recently, though. tonight i'm trying one i've not had before. it is called new amsterdam straight gin. i like it a lot, and will definitely get it again. its very affordable at about 15 bucks. in my opinion it tastes almost as good as many more expensive gins i've tried. still, hendricks is my favorite, and i do like it better than new amsterdam, but i am enjoying this stuff as much as tanqueray, bombay saphire, or beefeater. tonight i've tried it in some of my favorite ways to drink gin...the very rare shot, in a martini (favorite), in soda/mineral water with lemon (i like limes, but the store only had lemons), and in orange juice...each way is great with this gin.

in fact due to the affordable price, i could easily see this being a drink of choice at some point.

and what with my ever growing beer belly, it might be a nice change to drink some gin and sodas instead....definitely far lower in calories, very tasty and very effective....

It certainly is pricey but i happen to be a bartender at a bar where i have a large say in what gets put on draft. Our current tap selection is:
    Cantillon
    St bernadus abt 12
    Blanche de bruxelles
    Bells two hearted
    Jever pils
    Guinness
    chimay white
    Ace pear cider
    nodding head BPA
    Yards Philly pale
    boulder never summer ale
    allgauer cambonater
    Avery new world porter

Its free for me, so the price is right

which cantillon is it you serve?

sounds like a good bar, and a good selection

but i gotta say i tried two st bernardus beers recently and was underwhelmed by them. if i had to guess as to what it was that i disliked, i'd say they probably went a little heavy on the rock candi....crystalized sugars used in a lot of strong belgian beers to increase alcohol without increasing body....for how sweet and strong as it was, both st bernardus beers i tried (the tripel and some really strong dark one...8? 12? i forget what it was called) seemed really light and thin....i expected something thicker and heavier...not to say they're bad. they're well made, and famous for a reason. i was just underwhelmed, and i'd be tempted after another try or two to declare its just not what i'm going to usually be in the mood for.
