tonight i had some cheap swill beer (two michelob ultra ambers) but i just took a bomber of ommegang's abbey ale out of the fridge to let it warm up a bit before i open it (i like such beers chilled, but only slightly so...but i prefer to let it warm up a bit rather than trying to cool it slightly just before consumption

Your sig, please help me remember, is Hiragana on top, and Katana on the bottom? For foreign words? Or Kanji? Sorry this is off topic but my old self Relayer wishes to know if he is correct :)

Wasn't directed to me, but the top characters spell "inage" in hiragana, and the bottom two are kanji :)

Tonight I will be drinking Francis Ford Coppola's merlot with my family. Woo hoo. I've wanted to try Coppola's wine for forever, just because I think it's neat to enjoy both film and wine made by the same flamboyant man hehe

i've got a little sailor jerry's left, and have my choice of two beers: saison dupont or avery 13 (their weizen doppelbock)

its a tough choice to make...both sound really good and i've had neither one before. i'm not too familiar with either style, either, but have enjoyed what examples i know of them quite a lot. as far as weizen doppelbocks are concerned, i've tried only aventinus (i'd like to try their eisbock, soon), and with saisons i've only tried hennepin, on several occasions, and foret, an organic saison made by the same folks that make saison dupont...all these beers are incredible....i hope the two new ones i'm trying live up to my hopes...

since its a hard decision as to wich to drink tonight, though, i'll probably end up drinking the avery 13 just because of the stupid fact that its friday the 13th.

i heard some unfortunate news today....it seems tetley's english ale is no longer sold in my area at all. i'd been keeping my eyes open for it lately because it's been a while since i had it and i do enjoy it, even if its not my absolute favorite. i asked the guy at the store if they had any, and he said they just sold the last of theirs, and that it seems its not being distributed in my area anymore.

well, i did end up drinking the avery weizen doppelbock last night.

i'll start by saying i only have one other beer as a point of reference for this style of beer, so i don't have much to base general opinions on, but considering the other beer (aventinus weizen doppelbock) is a classic, i'd guess its safe to say that avery's offering doesnt SEEM to be characteristic of the style. unfortunately i have no way of verifying this, but it was quite different from what i'd expect.

the big thing, which i expected, was a strong hop profile, which was pleasant but very different from aventinus. perhaps other german weizen doppelbocks are strongly hopped and i just dont know it, but in my experience hefeweizens havent and doppelbocks havent been too heavily hopped, so it doesnt make sense that these would.

all in all, though, it was a delicious beer even if it was americanized. definitely very tasty and very well made. pretty innovative. i think i would have liked a bit less of an asskicker last night though....its pretty strong, a bit more than i needed.

tonight i'll have a bottle of saison dupont, and i'm beside myself with anticipation. i love both the saisons i've tried before, and can't wait.

well i'm unexpectedly broke. i have direct deposit for my paychecks at work, and friday was payday. theres apparently been some problem and nothing was deposited. my check did not get sent to the new store to which i transferred, nor did it get sent to my former store. i just simply did not receive pay for two weeks' work.....

so instead of drinking a 7 dollar bottle of beer (the saison dupont, which i'm extremely anxious to try) i figured i'd go ahead and crack open the 5L mini keg of kapuziner hefeweizen i'd been saving for a party. seeing as i can get these for a mere 11 dollars, i figured its ok cause i can just get another for the party if we ever end up actually having it (or get spaten, warsteiner, monschoff schwarzbier, etc.) but since i'll be broke for a few days anyhow, i figure i'd end up opening that up instead of buying more beer anyway, so i might as well open it and drink a lot of it the night before i have nothing to do rather than drink the dupont first and open this tonight,

anyway, it was pretty good, but not wonderful. i definitely prefer paulaner and weihenstephaner, but it sure beats most american wheat beers i've tried.

The top line is Hiragana for "Inage" and the bottom line is Kanji for "Inage". It was one of my local stations in Chiba. :)
Katakana is the script used to write foreign/borrowed words. Katakana and Hiragana are easy to tell apart...Hiragana has more curves in the script.
