i dont mind pabst too very much myself....of course its nowhere NEAR what i'd usually want, if i MUST drink a cheap beer its among the few i'd consider purchasing.

i'm definitely excited to have that unibroue edition 2004 on the way, though!

i bet it's going to be amazing....

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/14732

but i still can't drink beer for a couple days....i think i ought to wait until tuesday's checkup to make sure my mouth is healing fine. if he says i look ok, i'll start having beer again. i can't wait! but for now i'm not drinking at all, unless it's uncarbonated. and since i SHOULDNT drink at all and i have some beer and brandy coming in the mail (should be here maybe saturday?) i'm probably just not going to buy anything at the store, and make do with the occasional hit off a bowl. its day 3 and they say after 48 hours you can smoke again....but i'm going to smoke as little as possible, though, just to be on the safe side.

    soon enough nesta, soon enough.

i can't wait to get home and go pick up some fine craft beer man...it sucks here. rarely had the chance to drink craft beer up here at school. went out a few times and had a pint of different beers, but mainly i've been drinking bud light and other crap only because its cheap and what my friends want to buy

but not tomorrow night man...not tomorrow night.

ill probably break down tomorrow and get some sake so i can at least have a drink or two without irritating my mouth, but what i really want is beer. and for some reason i find myself absolutely craving tetley's english ale, which i haven't had in quite some time. they used to carry it at kroger near where i live, but i haven't seen it there in a long time and haven't seen it anywhere else ever....

its really a sad situation, in my opinion. not that it was ever my favorite beer, but just that what i really want is nowhere to be found.

i'm starting to get fed up with my local beer selection. new stuff comes around eventually, but for the most part its the same old stuff all the time. there are still some beers i see all the time that i havent tried, but i just want to be able to find a store and walk in and everything is something i've never tried....or at least find a store in my town dedicated to almost nothing but beer, and carrying an expansive selection of imports instead of just some american microbrews and the same tired old imports (harp, guinness, boddingtons, newcastle, heineken, becks, st pauli girl, lowenbrau, smithwicks, etc.)

i looked up some new stores on beeradvocate for my city today that i've not been to. hopefully one of them will be what i'm looking for.

i just wish i could find a store with better selections of belgian and german beers, and its nearly impossible to find any french beers other than kronenbourg (which is actually pretty tasty in my opinion, definitely a quality pilsner even if its not near my favorite)

its just that i know theres so much more wonderful beer out there that is either never imported to the US or just isnt distributed in my area. too bad liquids and glass are heavy and shipping beer is expensive!

there are a lot of great american beers, but too much of it is too heavily hopped for my tastes. hops are great, but only so long as the beer is balanced. i still prefer less aggressively hopped beers, in general, though. and most of the popular euro imports you can get just about anywhere here are second rate european equivalents to american macros. still generally beat american macros, but not great beer.

oh well. more motivation to get back on track with learning how to homebrew.

as far as things i know i can get that i'm wanting to try are rodenbach, abbot ale, lindeman's gueuze (i THINK they have this at one of my shops), piraat, a few of the great lakes beers i still havent tried, a few rogues, and a few german pilsners (such as weihenstephaner's) which i've generally ignored in favor of weissebiers, and i haven't tried it yet but it looks like cooper's could be good, and i enjoyed both the bottle of bell's best brown ale i tried and the goose island oatmeal stout, so i should check out those companies. so i suppose there are still things i can try around here....but nothing like the selections at beermania.be, belgianshop.com...of course liquidsolutions.biz, beergeek.biz, and beerliquors.com are US based and more affordable in terms of s&h, its still expensive considering its beer. i can justify occasionally ordering something special (like the unibroue 2004 i have on the way with some brandy) once in a while, but i can't exactly do normal beer shopping this way! i just want better variety.

oh hey, and beergeek.biz carries a limited selection of minikegs, but they're all of pretty decent beer. i got a minikeg of warsteiner once and went on a three day bender, cause i didnt realize it'd go flat once i opened it (what a jackass, haha!)

but it was damn good, at least the first two days!

its hard to find those things around here, and when you do its rarely anything good...usually like molson or labatt....if you're lucky you'll find becks or heineken...i was thrilled to find warsteiner....but to have a little thing of good schwarzbier! now thats a party :) shipping is pricey, but reasonable considering. if you had people chip in, it would totally be worth it for a party

Its ok Nesta, you will be back soon enough. We miss ya man, but its cool, we all got to get teeth pulled sooner or later. Although, I must admit, I got smashed off of 16 oz highlifes the day of my surgery, but then again, I had eaten all of my Vicodin before the surgery and they wouldnt refill. And then yet again, my teeth were fucked up for QUITE some time afterwards ;)

i'm torn between taking another of my pills and taking another rip or two off the bowl through the old shnoz...either will make me feel even nicer than i do now, and help me sleep sooner, but both will deplete my resources. i'm seriously trying to hold on to some of my pills since i don't know where to get them outside of a legit prescription anymore, but another one tonight would be nice regardless. cannabis is more replacable for me, but it hurts like hell smoking with your nose, and its super silly to boot, but it should help prevent dry socket and further complications. no booze in the house.

    *sigh*

    guess we'll see.

i wonder what my first beer will be when i start drinking beer again in a few days? i really want to try rodenbach, but i've never had ANY beer of that style before. three philosophers was really good, and i would like to have it again sometime, but probably not right now...

maybe try an english ale i've not have before....abbot ale, perhaps?

maybe even try a new lager or pilsner. i know rat's expressed distaste for czechvar, but it has received both really good and really bad reviews on beeradvocate...may be worth trying....but i'll probably save that for another time.

maybe leffe blonde? haven't had that.

guess i'll have to see. whatever it is, i'm sure a long as its above 4.5ABV i'll probably be cool with just one or two glasses....just having a beer will be good enough! :p

well, i gotta give it up for beeradvocate...they're a wonderful resource! i looked up on their beerfly thingy some good places to buy beer to take home, and i just got back from one reasonably close to where i live...and pretty close to where i do most of my shopping for beer anyway, too!

and their selection is delightfully different and has some really good brews! a wide selection of trappist ales (even westvleteren! it may cost 28 bucks for a 12 oz bottle...but they've got it!) and decent selction of abbey ales including st bernardus and others....some unibroue offerings i havent seen other places (including the one i have a bottle of coming in the mail, the edition 2004)

and a nice selection of gueuze beers for when i feel like spending the money to try some.

as it was, i wanted to get at least two beers i've never had before, do it for less than 10 dollars, and hopefully not only try two individual beers i'd not had before, but two styles ive never had, either. i also was wanting to stay away from anything too highly alcoholic today, just cause i feel like it.

so i ended up getting a bottle of ommegang's hennepin saison, which is still pretty strong at 7.7%ABV but its highly rated and also a beer i haven't tried and a style i havent tried, and it was only 4.99 for a 750ml bottle. i also got a bottle of something i'd never heard of and didnt recognize, a 11.2oz bottle of german altbier called Uerige Sticke Alt, which weighs in at 6% and cost $3.49 for the bottle. got away with two highly rated beers which will be completely new to me for less than 10 bucks! and they have a lot of other things i'm dying to try, too! i'm very excited by this :p

hey you're right! i ought to check when the thread was started, and at the 1 year mark drink an extra special glass of beer to commemorate!

tonight though will probably just be the alt with a couple painkillers and a gravity bong with some nuggets.....

or perhaps i'll drink the hennepin. who knows? i'm so excited to try each!

maybe i'll get one of those big 15 dollar bottles of lambics they have, or perhaps some rochefort or westmalle....its not a big enough reason to get a bottle of westvleteren, though. but maybe on my birthday i could spring for that.....still probably not though :p

i feel i owe it to myself to someday try it, and i know its an amazing beer, but i also know the nearly $30 price tag is due mostly to its rarity and high demand more than anything and that the beer simply on its own merits isnt worth that much....

but still. i feel like i should try at least one of their beers.

Im thinking some Rogues, since that was what was in my first post, and then some high class vodka or whiskey, a nice cigar, and some laid back hip hop to celebrate the day :) Oh, and some herb ;) This thread has become more important than my own birthday haha
