It's probably the best cheap beer, really. But like you say, it is a good beer for what it is, nothing too special. But Yuengling + Andres Segovia blasting in your ear = bliss :)

RELAYER, have you tried 211 Steel Reserve yet? Nasty ass shit, but it will have you feeling decent after the first can. A sixpack will have you feeling like you just drank a pint of bacardi or something. You can't beat it for $6/12-pack.

The Celebration Ale is an IPA, but it's quite different than any of the other IPA's out there, which makes it such an acclaimed and sought after beer. I would call it an artisinal IPA. It's also one of the hoppier ones out there. It's definitely a beer everyone needs to try at least once. It's one of the many seasonal beers I look forward to drinking every year. I plan on picking up a case for Thanksgiving.

well i'll have to try the celebration ale, but IPAs and other very highly hopped beers are rarely my favorites - that doesnt mean i don't enjoy them, though.

so how is it different from other IPAs?

the only IPAs i've tried so far, to my recollection, are samuel smiths, dogfishhead 90 minute IPA, and alexander keiths.....

i'm gonna have to try that celebration ale....sounds great

the spices in the pumpkin ale were well delivered and quite autumny (is that a word), has a nice taste of pumpkin on the taste. bitter hoppiness by the end of the mouthful, but still quite sweet tasting throughout. goes quite well with pumpkin pie (surprising huh? )

gonna save some for a more autumn based dinner and see how it goes, but as of now its quite drinkable - i enjoy it....not the best, but something different

The 90 Min. IPA is actually a double IPA/Imperial IPA. The Sammy Smith's is an English IPA, which is quite a bit different from the American IPA's in terms of their hoppiness. (English IPA's are much maltier and less hoppy.) The Alexander Keith's is an altogether bad example of the style and hardly even worth drinking (IMO).

The best American IPA's (that I've had), in my opinion, are Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale, Stone IPA, Victory's HopDevil, and Racer 5 IPA by Bear Republic. (Just in case you're looking for a few good ones to try.)

Then again, if you don't like hoppy beers you might not like any of them.

It's hard to say exactly how the Celebration Ale is different from other IPA's, but it is. It's very unrefined and raw. It has a ton of bite to it, but at the same time is incredibly smooth with a creamy finish. Even the color of the beer is different from other IPA's, with a dark copper-red hue.

But, like I said, if you don't like hoppy beers, there is a chance you won't like this because it is very intense and hoppy, not just in terms of its flavor but its aroma as well.

Here's the BA page for SN Celebration Ale:

Smuttynose makes some great beers. I've never had their pumpkin ale, though. One pumpkin ale I have had, which I enjoyed a lot, is Post Road, which is made by the Brooklyn Brewing Company. Give it a try if you can get ahold of it.

yeah, i didnt like the alexander keiths, i appreciated the 90 minute, and i adore samuel smiths india ale even though i rarely get it....

yeah, i don't love hops so much. i mean, hoppy beers can be great sometimes, particularly if i'm in the mood, but often there is just too much for me to handle. i can definitely appreciate some very hoppy beers (90 minute is a great example of one i really appreciate but rarely, if ever, find myself wanting to consume again) but appreciate them more for being well made than for suiting my tastes and preferances.....

so most likely i'll have to try the celebration ale before its gone, but from the sounds of it i'll probably appreciate it more than like it....

I've having Nighty Night herbal tea instead of my last Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I love tea and I have this great agave nectar to sweeten it!

    Peace and love
