well, i would imagine so, but i really don't know about where you'd find it at your location.....

first sake i tried i got in toronto at an LCBO store. it was also the first time i tried a unibroue beer (la fin du monde) and sapporro, and some other stuff. in fact, i drank a LOT that night and dont remember my opinions on much of any of it.

around my town you can get it in a limited number of grocery stores like giant eagle and i think some others maybe. world market often has a limited selection of pricey sakes. some liquor stores carry it. but really, in my experience, you get the best selection in stores that specialize in wines and beers.

there is a wide range of tastes and styles from what i understand, and though i'm not familiar with most of it i do enjoy my sake when i have it, even if it's cheap. most of what i've tried has a very mild taste, but some is more complex than others. there is supposedly as much variation in the types and tastes of sake as there is in wine. i'd like to learn more about it, myself.

there are only a very few sake breweries in the US, and i think most of them are in california. most places that i've been in the US that carry sake focus on american sakes. i'd imagine they're cheaper simply because of geographic reasons, but i'm unsure.

sake can be consumed continuously with little effort in many cases, particularly light and mild sakes. while they are a sort of beer (as they are cereal based) the lack of carbonation and the alcohol content/yeast strains really make it resemble a wine more....the high alcohol content is easily ignored, particularly if its a mild tasting bottle, and so this stuff can sneak up on you and kick your ass....big bottles of cheap sake like ozeki, fu-ki, and gekkeikan are pretty inexpensive, and are good for parties, in my opinion.

btw, i wouldn't try pairing it with really heavy food, greasy or meaty foods, or so on. something lighter like fish and salad with beans or rice would be preferable, in my opinion.

again, i know a little bit about it, but in the grand scheme of things i know VERY little about the differences in different types and so on.

also, stay away from plum sake. i've only had fu-ki's plum sake, but it was awful, and turned out to be nothing more than grape wine sweetend with plum flavorings....very sweet, almost syrupy....could make a body very sick if too much is consumed...

i'm halfway through a big can of sapporo. i tried it once a couple years back (when my experience with beer was extremely limited and becks was still probably my favorite) and liked it a lot at the time....i haven't tried it since. i remember buying it at the LCBO store because it had a cool can. i have seen bottles for sale but never bothered buying a six lately.

well, i found a place that carries the big individual cans. i have been curious to see what i'd think of it now, quite a bit later when i've tried many more beers than last time i tasted this....now that i have a much more descriminating palate, even if i wouldn't call myself a coinnesseur or an expert or anything....and i'm pretty unimpressed.

it most closely resembles budweiser, i think. very bready taste and aroma. very plain...no strong hops, very little interesting malts. almost no lacing. a little darker than straw colored. still pretty unimpressive appearance.

dont get me wrong - its drinkable. but its not GOOD.

if i'm not mistaken, its made with some rice in it - which would explain it's similarity to bud in terms of flavor.

i'd drink again if the price were closer to that of domestic beers, but as it is i wish i'd bought the big thing of becks instead.....it was bigger, cheaper, and the beer would have been better.

oh well, its worth the experience.

i'm looking forward to my bottle of hog heaven barleywine later!

really yucky kinda cheap tasting Freixenet champagne(sparkeling wine I guess since it's not from the champagnes)...but not cheap in that head rush overly sweet good way, but in that really wanted the 3.99 head rush spumante bottle but was too embarassed because the store was snobby

Right now, still drinking from last night, took 2 more vicodins, feeling pretty great! hahaha. Drinking Rogues Irish Ale, Dogfish heads Olde School Barley Wine (15% abv ;) ) and tapping into a 64 oz or 1/2 gallon jug of Rogues Dead Guy. The half gallon was only $11.00 so I thought why not? The bottle art is amazing too. Got to sober up though and hit the accoustic folk music store today, need some new nylon guitar stings and Im thinking about asking them if they teach classical. Im pretty sure they do, but everything there is handmade and expensive as shit.

Yuengling is one of the best cheap beers you can buy. I have nothing against it whatsoever. It is a good beer for what it is.
