I'm looking at Paul Klee's "Pedagogical Notebook." It's a kind of treatise on the dynamics of abstract art. To be honest it doesn't make an awful lot of sense, but I will persevere.

came across an old book during the move, a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories. Finished "A Study in Scarlet" the other night, currently reading the short story "The Red-Headed League".

Brilliant! I was given a copy of the 'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' when just a wee lad. 'The Red Headed League' was one of my faves (I've reread it again in more recent times) because being a red head myself it had big appeal. Another one that sticks in my mind is 'The Speckled Band' - sinister with that touch of Victorian melodrama that makes Holmes such a classic.

    Much better than I expected.
I knew it would be good when he quoted Chaung Tzu in the first chapter.

I tend to favor older works over contemporary ones.
I also have a collection of Edgar Allen Poe works published in 1928 and have read a good deal of it, although I will admit it takes a bit to shift gears when reading Poe and the language he utilizes. Not every-bodies cup-o-tea.
the Holmes collection was published in 1952....I love the smell and feel of old books... :)

    Unfortunately I'm missing two volumes.
Volume VIII is humor and IX philosophy.
VII is fantasy and V is the occult.

The Beach by Alex Garland... about a backpacker traveling in Thailand who is looking for adventure and finds a secret island/beach with a whole secret community... has elements of suspense and kind of a Lord of the Flies kind of thing going on too... I'm really enjoying it... almost to the end

Just finished the collection gutshot by Amelia Grey

A more aptly titled collection you couldn't find. Those stories were intense. Heartily reccomended.

Life Before Man - Margaret Atwood

My Life in the Great North Woods - Robert Smith

    Histories - Herodotus (tough going)

The Penguin Book of Keyhole Neurosurgery

One of these titles is made up - can anyone tell me which one?
