I was running this last nite, and it took 6 and a half hours to finish. I kept coming back to the computer to see if anything had been detected, and the only one that I saw was found 98% through. I hadn't notice that the internet disconnected, so when the time came to delete it, the program couldn't continue and it shut down. I really don't want to sit thru another 6 & a half hours of that shit again, so does anyone know what folders are the last to be scanned?
Haven't a clue, if you haven't already I would advise the fallowing: A: run the scan in safe mode, a lot less processes are ran in safe mode thus you may be able to delete/scan/whatever those directories. B: try running your scan with the interent unplugged, some malware relies on your having a connection to run or function correctly... p3@c3
this computer has no virus scan program installed.. i spent $80 last summer on some mcafee security suite that just wouldn't work (it kept prompting me to connect to the internet so it can update itself), and for some reason the site it went to was never up, or it was a bad link in the program, or something. so i have to go to www.pc-cillin.com to run housecall. i wanted to run it in safe mode, so i restarted in safe mode with networking, but i couldn't connect to the internet.
I also use McAfee but i did not spend 80 dollars on it. Hell no. 20 bucks for the ltest version. (Did get a student discount. But damn 80 dollars) I would have downloaded alot of Trial versions of different brands of virusscanners.
It won't work in safe mode, since you are trying to scan across the internet, expect it to take a hiwl, and expect it to hang... Youre best bet is to get a av program, if you are only worried about the latest viruses, and not old ones, download the Stinger Tool from McAfee it will find and kill usualyl the most active ones out there, and its free (search http://vil.nai.com)
