That reminds me of a line I heard spoken on an episode of Trailer Park Boys - when Sarah said "The only way Ricky's ever gonna get any smarter is if he dies and comes back as a turnip".
"higher forms of energy/matter to attain is a self-delusional limitation." No disrespect but it could be disillusion that other matter can be a higher form. The human brain is the most complex 3lbs of matter known to science. It is also pure energy as it is made from atoms.
I meant illusion not disillusion of course. It is very difficult to quantify scientific knowledge as it is relative to science as yet unknown, which is by definition unknowable, so terms such as "little" or a lot is relative to an unknown. What we currently know is the brain we have evolved and the complexity of neural pathway development within, from DNA instruction is completely beyond our current understanding (and why consciousness should arise when constructed a certain way) and that is right here and now between our ears making us type this stuff. What we also know is there is a lot of nothing out there, seemingly energy dissipating or just empty space compared to brain/consciousness it appears low level.
Matter can have different energy states so I'm told. I suppose you could say higher states of matter can channel more energy, like say, a cosmic ray. So much energy in such a compact form moving at the highest conceivable speed, yet barely detectible. Imagine all that exists that we have yet to detect, or probably never will. Since our detection of something like a cosmic ray does not reveal it's true nature, because that perception is an illusion, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, only that we don't understand it's true nature yet. Perhaps it's a being whose complete form exists in a different dimension. It could exist in a different timeframe, invisible due to our infinitely slower perception. It could have a consciousness that we can't begin to fathom. Yet would Buddha or Buddhism deny this possibility?
So, If I'm human in this life, and receive enlightenment upon my deathbed, am I good? Would it be a bit greedy to reencarnate as a human again? Do you get to keep on failing? Is it not that you are re-born in a new life form based on the attributes shown during your prior life? That you earn your reincarnate status based on good works? If so, I do not get to chose. Perhaps I will be re-born as a cockroach due to extensive privlige in this life?
If you become enlightened in this life, then you are no longer subject to involuntary rebirth. You can choose to come back if you see an opportunity to help others. You are reborn based on your actions in this life and possibly previous lives. Your rebirth is based on your actions. No one but you gets to choose them. Rebirth as an insect would be due to unskillful actions.
Some posts have been cleaned up. Please keep this thread on the topic of what animal you wish to be reincarnated as. Speculation on what animal some politicians might come back as are not in the spirit of Buddhist inquiry.
