Economic distribution got better for a few brief months before the plague hit. Seems " The Wealthy" are most upset by Trump. The removal of full RE tax write-off angered the wealthy. Having to compete for workers in a full employment economy angered the wealthy.
I'd like to see figures on that. Are you simply saying that because of fuller employment, the income gap between wealthy and poor closed somewhat. My suspicion is that the tax benefit to corporations and the wealthy from the Republican tax "reform" took care of that considerably, and then some. I doubt that "the wealthy" are that pissed over the tight labor market and the Real Estate write off--given the soaring stock market. If you're talking about the mortgage deduction, that hit a lot of middle class folks, since it was their major tax deduction, but the increase in standard deduction may have helped make up for it. .
I worry about the future of this country. We have a Senate that refused to fill a seat on the Supreme Court because it was 247 days before a national election but is willing to fill a seat on the same body 42 days before the election, with Senators like Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham promising they'd never do that only to go back on their word, . That is bad faith. Then we have an Attorney General drawing up a list of "anarchist cities" to be deprived of federal monies. And to top it off, a President who gives every indication of challenging the legality of the election if it doesn't come out their way. If we have a scenario in which a Supreme Court with a newly enhanced Republican majority backs Trump up on an election challenge which seems clearly bogus, we have the setting for a major political confrontation--possibly involving violence. Some on the right seem to be saying "we've got the power"--but do you? You seem to represent about two-fifths of the population. Mao told us power comes out of the barrel of a gun, but most political scientist think he was wrong. Authority, or legitimated power, results from people's acceptance of the right to be governedustine, which depends on their feeling the government is fair and working on everyone's behalf. Saint Augustine was right in saying that governments without justice are "great robberies". It's conceivable the minority might take power by force, but holding it will be more difficult, and I don't think anyone will like the mess that would result. After Humpty's great fall, from his Wall, it will be hard to put the country back together again.
My husband the Qboy says that Trump has no intention of relinquishing his office but that he would dig in while being defended by his faithful base. He also said that good old Forrest Trump is setting himself up as King of America!
Hey, the guy in the MAGA hat sounds exactly like VG! His posts are pretty much variations on the same theme!
Taking up arms to overthrow the Constitution is serious business. He may end up serving lots of time, or worse!
If a defeated President refuses to step down he could be arrested for treason. I don't have a problem with that, but again I hope he loses in a landslide so that all but his most fanatical supporters don't take up arms in support of him.
I remember 2016 when all the right wing sources were afraid of Obama. 8 years is up but we just know he will not leave. They threw around words like king and dictator all the time. He's going to cancel the election and lock us all up. Now we see how un-Amerivcan these people really are. They were fine with those things as long as it was not them suffering from them. I don't think this civil war they long for is going to be that easy. Half the military hates Trump since they are "losers" and the media here has shown a lot of left wing militias. How do I know they are left wing? Two things they will speak to the media and most of the members were black. No matter what there is going to be some violence. Trump will not be accepted if he wins. People will remember his views on the USPS. And if he does win the margin will not be wide enough for his voter. He will sit in the oval office for weeks enjoying all the attention he gets. The war is for him. Narcissists love that kind of thing.
You’re an idiot..... the popular vote? Seriously???? I live in southern Illinois and we constantly live under the shadow of Chicago. Pritzker only won 3 counties in the last election and they were all in Chicago... the rest of the state suffers because of that shithole city. Illinois is a perfect example of why we need the electoral college ..... otherwise New York, LA and Chicago would decide every presidential election if it was by popular vote.
Irm has a strange obsession with "not feeling shame" as she put it for Germany's past. Don't get too focused on arguing with her. Trump to her seems to represent a second chance at her own history. I've met some much nicer Germans who don't think like that. Ones who rather then praise modern fascism appropriate what the allies did to help them without getting personalty offended that their country had to fail for that to happen.
