yes, i think peeps get scared in a writer's forum. i used to write on a great website poetry board and i encouraged so many people to write poetry that never had, they all were so creative and wrote incredible poetry. i just believe in letting it flow and not worry about what others will think. i loved that forum cause no one critiqued you, just gave you props. hippiewise
I wish more people thought that way, hipiewise. This might be a cliche what I say, but a lot of damage is done by what those around us say to us. Someone may want to be an actor and his friends will laugh. His family tells him to find a proper job, etc. Others may want to write and may have wonderful explosive feelings in their heart that would reach out to people reading their work, but maybe their spelling isn't crystal clear and then it only takes a smartass comment or two to make them shun back into their shell. Artists are generally shy people and sensitive. I hope more people will be brave to at least have a go at writing in here. If they can rise above the negativity of criticism then they will reap in the reward of actually improving their form. Some people plaster the forum with 5-10 consecutive stories then are never seen again. Neither do they comment on anyone else's work. That's understandable. When I was young, I thought the universe revolved around me, too. But that's OK, because that is part of our life and it's always nice to read what the younger generation has to say. It's reminiscent, like a good wine. I also hope that the people who are always offering good advice in this forum and seem to know a lot about writing, would also venture into lertting us all sampe some of their work. If they're worried about what people might think of it, the best thing would be to take the criticism with a pinch of salt. After all, how long are we going to live? And who cares what they say about our work in the next century? Maybe we can't write as good as Shakespeare, Cervantes, Dante, or Dostoyevski, but then again architects don't make buildings like the Parthenon, the Pyramids, or the Taj Mahal any more. We have to go along with the times we're living in. We're writing for each other now, not to impress the aristocracy, or the church. Come on folks, start writing. It's good for you.
im the anti artist. i see myself more as john lennon, my hero. i hear someone play something, and i'll tell them flat out if it was horrible or if it was great and i want to work on it. art is a load, i cant stand people sitting around in galleries being all sensitive and looking at paintings. i wanna just get a canvas and totally destroy it, shoot it up, burn it, and then put it in one of these galleries. as far as the view of art goes, im nervous. what if we're the faggot generation? what if we're like sixties movies...while the music scene was hot, i cant think of any of those movies. who will be remembered? will people talk about green day after they're dead? will they talk about rappers? will they talk about me? but now i'm getting way off subject...haha.
got to be a gladiator...earn your name in history, held by stars, god awed and angel feared, the human artist!
What was it Robin Williams said in 'Dead Poet's Society'? "Live the day", or something like that. When I was 18 I was in a rush to do everything and see everything and as a result became frustrated and switched off to a great deal of good things that surrounded me. Instead I focused on the brainwashing power of the media. And as a result almost always chose the opposite of what they suggested I should like. Gradually, as things slowed down, I realized that we do have a certain freedom of choice. That's not to say that everybody likes Caravaggio, but I bet you if you took a little trip outside the US and visited Venice, or Rome, it will help you change your perspective on many things. Time is our only enemy ladies and gentlemen. Live the day, like Mork said. Love and be kind to animals, even the 2 legged ones.
yeah i just realized that this is such an empty forum, theres me and white scorpion and keramptha and well i wouldnt much count myself i dont add much and im sure theres more but wow i could name a million people off the mj forums. hm. sad really.
There! You see? I was right! We're moribund. We'll never win the cup! It's a shame because there's a lot of bright spark plugs out there. This forum should be buzzing, instead we're a bus shelter.
lol^^ well. writings a passion of mine, and the refernce to time... some great quotes... 'time waits for no man' and 'if you dont break your ropes in this life, what makes you think that ghosts will do it after?' i also read something about how words just cant convey the real love of life. they dont come close..and sometimes words just drop away. but the beauty of words that hold meaning in them will always amaze me, that we can create words to express things between each other. they can be a connection. other times they can be a barrier and a conception that holds you back. but they still speak. and i guess it depends on how you view them..as a tool or poetic or meaningless. but someone taught me how to speak, lots of people gave me that gift...and its something we use to share our minds. and what i think is sad is that we dont appricate them for why they exist in the first place. we've come a long way from.. grunt grunt. and another thing is that potentionally, if we used them with consideration we could solve all the worlds problems with a few conversations. so they have got a lot of power and ill always appriciate peoples writing... so come write some!!!
I must say things are brightening up in here at last. We're a good crew, ladies and gentlemen. And by the look of things we have some bright new stars joining us. Together we can make this ship sail to edge and back. I just hope we have enough barrels of apples to see us through.
