Were you allowed to Masturbate growing up?

When you guys were growing up, were your parents ok with you masturbating? When you were caught, what was the reaction?

I was always brought up that your body is not something to be ashamed with, and my parents preferred allowing me to masturbate over potentially getting girls pregnant... So I ran with it.

 

I was raised by an aunt and uncle who were sex-positive nudists so masturbating was treated as normal and natural. Everyone in the house did it openly. Main rule was don't make a mess on the living room upholstery.

 

You have got to be kidding. Nobody spoke a word of it or anything about sex. Funny, one lazy summer morning, I must have been 14 or so, I was splayed out naked on the bed going at it with my traditional morning edging session, probably with my eyes closed... Mom barged in to roust me out of bed as she obviously felt I had something to do, I heard the door, saw her, she flipped around on her heels and headed out in a nanosecond without a word. I laid there stunned for a bit and thought, hey, what the hell, I might as well finish the session....she already knows...so I did. I got up, dressed and just went about things as nothing happened and she never mentioned a thing and that was that.

I suppose, raising my three other brothers, too, she's seen it all and nothing would have shocked her....

 

How openly? Did you just wander about the house, dick in hand?

 

It was a nudist household so we were normally naked at home unless there were textile visitors. Anyone who felt like playing with themselves did it wherever they were. We just had to be careful about what we ejaculated on.

I couldn't even imagine walking around in my tightie whities from my room to the bathroom as a kid, much less roaming around naked in the house.....

 

My parents used to try and shame me for it but it never stopped me. If I was home alone, I’d be at it in every room. They caught me in their room once, using one of my mom’s perfume bottles in me, it was all textured so it felt amazing lol!

I have no siblings but yes, my aunt, uncle, and cousins all played openly.

I was influenced by the neighbor boys who were Catholic. All I got from mom and dad was the b & b talk. Otherwise sex education was on my own. But the Catholics next door talked as if jacking off was for "queers". It wasn't until I left home for school where I encountered more open minded people, hippies, and experienced "free love", masturbation included. My sexual personality was awakened during those years of my life.

 

Sure. They never ever did it...... That's why in Catholic school, they had mandatory confession weekly....for at least that....

 

Probably very true but the influence kept me from enjoying the pleasures of solo sex until I discovered other opinions.

 

My parents were always encouraging that there was nothing wrong with exploring our bodies, as long as its done behind closed doors in the privacy of one's own home, and that it's done alone. They didn't want to walk in on me showing the neighbor boys how my plumbing works, even if it was for the sake of curiosity lol

 

I was very young when I started masturbating, and I touched myself over my clothes, so only a few warnings from my parents "not to do that" were enough for me to get that it was something that I should not do in the presence of others, alhough there was nothing stopping me from masturbating when I was all alone. As years went by we never really talked about it at length, though they must have known I was doing it quite frequently, with my underpants starting to get all gooey as I entered puberty.

I think the added mystique of masturbation being somewhat of a taboo during my childhood has also contributed to me developing an obsession with it, so I feel that repression against one's own sexuality during youth - whether endorsed by families, friends, teachers or religious communities - will eventually only lead to a more intense sexual awakening and thus an even greater triumph of masturbation.

Allowed? It was never discussed. I figured it out all on my own, and it was my own private thing. I'm sure my parents knew I was doing it, partly because pretty much every boy does it, but I'm sure I left unintentional clues too. It was literally not mentioned even once.

We were much more conversant with our son. We neither gave permission or prohibited it, we just discussed what it was all about. We also were not the kind of family that covered up when we were around the house. Not nudists, but not walking around in full robes either. We weren't embarrassed about our bodies. We all saw each other naked many times, no big deal. He did whatever he did, we didn't monitor either. He commented a couple times that he heard us in the bedroom too, we apologized, but didn't modify behavior either.
