i remember as a child when the moon landings happened and my father worked for NASA and Aeorjet and was involved with the project. i think they were real.

Were the moon landings faked? THE MOON LANDINGS WERE REAL!!! BUT, the photos and movies of the Apollo Missions were "sanitized" by NASA, i.e photos were "airbrushed" (plus PHOTO-SHOPPED) to remove UFO's, alien structures and aliens, themselves. Some of the "on the moon" movies were made in a studio, to show us (the stupid and gullible public) a false version of the moon and not the way it really is and what really is on the moon! Time to "wag the dog"! It's a cover-up, or "Moon-Gate"! There were real movies taken on the moon, taken with a "grainy camera". Sound confusing? Not really.

Well, yes UFOs ARE real. Anything in the sky that cannot be readily identified iis, by definition, an UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT. Making the leap to assume that that means that it must be a spacecraft being operated by an extraterrestrial society is quite another thing, and demands a BIT more evidence....

During Glenn's orbital flight, the fear was that the "fireflies" were somehow related to the capsule's heatshield, and a harbinger of impending doom for the astronaut. An indicator light was giving a (now known to have been false) indication that the landing bag was already deployed, and that the capsule was likely to burn up on re-entry. They cut the mission short (only 3 orbits instead of the planned 7), and modified the re-entry procedures in an attempt to get him home safely. There was no actual problem, and Glenn returned safely to earth and a second career as a US senator...

On subsequent mercury flights, the "fireflies" were pretty well established to have been freeze-dried particles of urine formed when the capsule's overboard waste dump ejected into the vacuum of space. This came to be known to astronauts as "The Constellation Urion".

 

First off, I haven't read the whole thread through. But this is just my opinion.
I don't think we went to the damn moon. If we did, one of these presidents since Kennedy, would have had to be power hungry enough to go back. Power hungry enough to not worry about how much it'd cost, and just take a whole bunch of shit up there. "Colonization! Colonization!"

It's intresting that no former NASA engineers of photographers would have come out if the landing were fake, no?

Theres so much ample evidence in rocketry, photography, and moon geology that anyone who does belive that the moon landings were faked believes so for reasons that overwhelming evidence can't convince them otherwise.

Are all the thousands of non government employed geologists who looked at moon rocks on the government pay roll? Do geologists do it all for the booty?

All of the challenges to the moon landing have been answered within seconds. An example is the flag waving challenge.

Theres no wind on the moon, and the flag was waiving in some pictures.

But theres video of the astronauts moving the flag to give it the illusion of waiving. The flag was waiving because of inertia.

Conspiracy people don't listen to challenges that conflict with the pre-concived way they view the world. Every person I've known who truly believed the moon landings were faked also believed the government was responsible for 9/11. It's a Psychological pattern, any thinking person should investigate , and see these conspiracies for what the are.

 

Well, the moon landings were independently verifiable by other governments and interested laymen. All the evidence was out in the open, and all the technical details have been published for all to see. If you examine the physics needed to make the trip and compare it to the capabilities of the hardware that NASA used, the mission is perfectly plausible.

On the other hand, much critical evidence needed to independently verify the government's account of the 9/11 attacks has been classified for "national security" reasons. All of the physical evidence (plane wreckage and structural parts of the WTC towers) was immediately whisked away under government control, and melted down for scrap metal before the official "investigation" even began. And if you look at simple things like the temperature of burning jet fuel vs. the melting point of structural steel, large parts of the "official" story really start to look suspicious at the very least.

I don't think that you can really draw any parallels at all between the 2 events....

 

Well I do find the psycological motivations of people who believe in both of those to be similar.

Although if we did want to debate this, another thread would probably be better.

I do want to point out, that in no sense did the steel in the twin towers need to melt to cause the towers to collapse. The industrial steel simply needed to reach a heat in which it began to lose structural integrity and could no longer support the 30-40 stories above where the planes struck.

Industrial steel is much stronger and harder then Iron, but it is also much more brittle, it deforms under stress and would have to reach no where near melting temperatures to break under the stress of that much heat and weight.

Absolutely true. But I'm not sure how to balance this against the eyewitness accounts and news footage showing steel beams that were clearly melted, and not just damaged by heat and plastic deformation.

The other thing that has always bothered me about the official story is the fact that out of 4 planes, NOT ONE of the "black boxes" was ever recovered. I might be able to understand nothing being found after being pulverized in the tower collapse, but the pentagon crash and the field in PA were essentially "normal" plane crashes, and nothing was ever found there, either.

As pertaining to the question of why we havent gone up there in 30 some years (Point of view of the govt):

We were in a space race in the 60s with the USSR. They lauched sputnik and scared the shit out of us. We however beat them to the moon. We won the space race. Then about 2 decades later the USSR fell.

If you're a runner in a race competing against one opponent you will do anything you can to be ahead of your opponent. Then lets say suddenly your oppenent drops dead. Are you gonna continue to sprint or are you gonna take your time?

We havent been to the moon recently because we haven't had a dire reason to go. Why go to the moon now? We won the race. What now? Why spend the billions of dollars to go to the moon when other more pressing issues confront us.

A cool little fact I learned a few weeks ago: There is more computing power in a TI-83 calculator than all of NASA had to work with in the 60s to get men on the moon.
