Never in a million years did I think I would ever go in a public establishment showing my feet, let alone completely barefoot!!

I got up, got dressed, grabbed my sandals and headed out. I got to my neighborhood market 20min after it opened because I knew traffic would be very minimal, and it was. Babysteps for me, I looked for a shopping cart as I was driving and there was just 1. I wanted it as a safe keeping heading in as for I didn't want to totally draw attention to myself as for this is my first time.

Walking to the entrance the asphalt felt great, like sandpaper. It was cool because it is 40 out right now. I got into the store with my cart and just headed for my typical route (I meal prep and live off the same crap every day).
The floor was cool, and very very smooth. A lot of floor stockers were around. One looked up at me, and then my feet, then she looked over chatting with disdain but that could have been anything. I passed several workers and maybe 5 total customers.
I completed my route and went to self checkout. I could feel the self checkout kid staring me down even though bag table next to the checkout was blocking me. I even turned around and glanced at him, oh yes he was staring at me.
An older lady working self checkout walked by me, and then walked up to that kid. She said "you see that guy has no shoes on? He's braaave".
I finished up, walked by him as he was playing on his phone, I told him have a good say. He said hey you too man thanks! And I was on my way.
This was a fantastic first experience and I completely get the hype! Although I was walking around shaking and heart racing, I was totally enjoying myself.
I don't know how often I will do this but it might be my weekend thing before it starts to get really cold out in the upcoming weeks. But I did love it.
I did look around, make sure coast was clear and snapped a pic of my feet in the store as proof I am not one of those shmoe's that likes to get on here and make stuff up. I also got a pic of my sole after I got in my vehicle to avoid anymore awkward/weirdness that could have occured.

I will say it was this forum over the years that gave me the most encouragement. I would read post after post over the years and I finally went out and did it. I am still in the crawl phase. Will see what happens next. Have a good weekend!

    Thats cool.

Im in a Florida beach town, I would imagine it was easier to get started here wearing swim trunks a tee shirt with sandy bare feet. Still felt awkward at first like was rule breaking somehow. I forget how long but I eventually got to were I didn't even notice I was barefoot much anymore.

Like havent said to myself lately "I am bare handed" its just how I am.

I have trouble barefooting wearing long pants in public, thats tough for me. When it gets chilly heavy surfer style sweatshirt then shorts and bare feet.

A first off beach adventure was barefooting in Home Depo. Anticipation walking in but then no one cared. Im not a mind reader but some people must have been that looks like fun, whats it like to be barefoot in here?

Just Tyler I’m glad you went and did your first barefooting in a public place. I bet you were nervous that someone would say something about your bare feet. But they didn’t and I hope my advice help you when I told you to just act normal and just do what you usually do shopping. Once you start going barefoot in more places and you start have more confidence about going barefoot in public you won’t even want to wear shoes at all and there will be a time that you will be forgetting your shoes or flip flops and you will just get in your car and just go and do what you need to do and it will be awesome for you . And I love the pictures of your bare feet. Keep barefooting it’s a awesome lifestyle.

I used to find on any given day that once I got that first store barefoot behind me it would get more and more natural feeling. By the third or fourth I'd completely forget I was barefoot. I'd jump out of my truck and stroll right into whereever I needed to go. No one would seem to even notice most of the time. Like noted above, I'd forget if I had any footware with me at all.

I know how you feel I’m barefoot so much that I forget I’m barefoot . It’s great that you don’t wear shoes anymore and that being barefoot is natural for you that you forget that you’re barefoot. It’s awesome lifestyle and do you go barefoot all year around?

Man! Someday when I retire I hope to live in a beach town. I do think I would be far farrr more prone to being barefoot. I am from arizona where it is tshirt and shorts year round. Florida, it would be same thing, hoodie in the winter when its kinda cold lol. But yea I think I could see myself being a barefooter depending on the area. As far as pants go, I found it easier for me to wear jeans because in my mind, it is not struck so obvious that I am barefoot because in shorts, from knee down its all the same tone and it would appear more obvious that I was barefoot. In pants/jeans, I feel like someone would have to look down specifically at what shoes (or not) that you are wearing.

I was definitely nervous. The whole time pushing cart into store I was kinda laughing saying out loud You are really doing this right now, you are crazy lol. Any time a worker, or few and far between a customer were to get near me, I could feel my face getting hot, which means I was turning red, which to me is obvious that I am nervous about something to other people. Then they see I am barefoot and they're like oh, thats why, hes barefoot. I did pass a few people and they didn't even notice when we exchanged some polite words such as excuse me or what have you. I can't see myself going into any store in the middle of the day barefoot. But then again who knows, like opening statement says, I never thought in a million years I would go into any public place showing my feet, let alone completely barefoot.

as the lady told her coworker at the self checkout, you're braaave lol. I am sure someday I may get to that point. I have all minimalist shoes, which as far better than anything else I have ever owned, and even those are starting to bother me now. And I really hate socks, which is funny because I was a socks everywhere advocate. Everyone in the family knew me as always wearing socks. Times have certainly changed.

It will get easier the more you go barefoot and the more you go barefoot in public you will get over being shy about being barefoot in public. And I think you will be so happy and your feet will thank you. And I’m the same way I hate socks I never wear them . I did when I was a lot younger but now I don’t even own a pair of socks let alone a pair of shoes. I hope you keep going barefoot it’s a awesome lifestyle

Oh I hear you. I'm a jeans person, period. I moved from Ohio to Arizona nearly 20 years ago as I can no longer stand the bitter cold. The only time I 'm wearing shorts is when I have my swim trunks on.

I recall I was barefoot in one of those Neighborhood Markets many years ago., I'm assuming that's Walmart you're referring to. I had no problem walking in barefooted, it felt really nice. BTW, I did see another guy in there shopping barefoot, I said that I liked his shoes and wished him a good day. Nowadays there's a security person or a off duty cop standing in the entrance of these places to curb shoplifting. I just bite the bullet and wear my flip flops inside now.

I am not a jeans guy at all lol. I find them all uncomfortable for me so I dread winters a lot of the time. I much prefer shorts and a hoodie year round lol. But for this case like I said, I found that being barefoot wouldn't be so apparent by wearing a pair of jeans so theres that. What part of Az are you in again? I grew up in mesa. It is a walmart neighborhood market indeed. I will probably stick to this market for now since it is small and counts for 3x points on the credit card when I do grocery shopping. Big walmart don't count as groceries for some reason. I don't it will be any time soon where I work up the courage to go barefoot in that bigass store lol.

I hear you I don’t like wearing pants either but living in Utah it gets a little bit cold and so I wear some jeans with bare feet. But I mostly wear like jogging pants or or yoga pants and bare feet I ever wear shoes or socks . And when I go to Walmart every employee knows who I am and they know that I never wear shoes even if it snowing and there’s like from one inch of snow to a foot of snow it’s a awesome feeling
