Greed is, and always has been, the problem. It is seen in all walks of life. If you took greed out of the equation, everybody would be content. But most are not content with being content. Everybody has an ego. Most are enslaved to it. It is where greed, and all other forms of fear come from. Most humans live a fear-based life. Human existence will, at this rate, sabotage itself.
So true, a clear throwback to our earlier precivilization. After all, we're trying to navigate a world that is technologically advancing faster than we can cope. And we're doing it with brains made for surviving in the freakin forests. From what I have seen, we have greedy assholes on both sides of Washington.
Fairly certain most conservatives are completely unaware of the Calvinist roots of their economic philosophy. Those who have concocted it certainly were. I imagine they would be quite pleased that their vision is panning out precisely as expected.
I was raised in Texas. I have lived in Texas for about 45 years. We Texans believe that everyone who was NOT born wealthy is a Sinner. We Texans believe that people who are Poor have no value of any kind. Texas believes that the Poor and the disabled should be severely punished for their disobedience to God. God wants everyone in Texas to be wealthy. But you must turn away from your life of depravity if you wish to share in God's plan for Money. You have ZERO value to society if you are not a Conservative Republican millionaire. Rush Limbaugh has more money than you because Rush Limbaugh is closer to God than you are. That's the Texas Way.
Receiving welfare benefits should contingent on something from the beneficiary. Ideally the conditions for receiving benefits should vary from person to person depending on their particular situation. For the unemployed it would mean finding a job, any job. Community service would also be an option. For the underemployed it would mean helping them find a better job or work toward completing the next level of their education. The chemically addicted would have to enter a recovery program and stay clean. A big problem I never hear talked about is how to help those who have criminal records; this can follow them around for the rest of their lives and seriously damage any hope of finding good employment. Every state should have some type of expungement program so that, after a person has paid his debt to society, they get a shot at becoming productive. I'm not talking about seriously loony people here, I mean those with drug related records or petty theft or similar convictions. This may be slightly off topic but I'd also like to see child support payments come directly from the state to the custodial guardian. The parent responsible for making payments would see an extra deduction on his pay stub every pay period (assuming he has a job.) The custodial parent would still be paid by the state regardless. It's easier for the state to go after a deadbeat parent than it is for a poor person. I've known too many people who are owed money by an ex and we should put a stop to it.
I totally agree with you. My mom was a single parent. When my father left she struggled to even get food stamps and she certainly didn't have welfare. She didn't even have a job and she took the first thing she found. My father is a construction worker so his work is unreliable because he's also a loser. So they could never find him or his income because he got paid under the table. I'm 26 and he still owes back child support. Tens of thousands of dollars worth.
Government surplus cheese makes the BEST grilled cheese sandwich you will ever eat. Something about aging in a government warehouse near ammunition and cleaning supplies.
