Few people understand how the internet is financed. Google alone have an electricity bill that runs to tens of thousands of pounds every month. It is all financed by advertising. Advertisers need to know the location, gender, age, hobbies and social status of their potential customers, otherwise they would be sending me details of a saree in India or a farm tractor in Australia. (We are in London UK). All this information is collated by a clever combination of data collated from my operating system, browser and sites that I visit. It is now so complex that even videos that I watch on You-Tube (while logged into my account) can affect it. I recently ordered a pair of classic shoes online. For weeks, the adverts appearing on my screen were from suppliers of similar shoes and the suppliers were here in the UK. One shop had a branch almost visible from my lounge window and the telephone number on the advert was for THAT BRANCH. The following day the same advert appeared again, but since I was in the office, it found me a nearer branch. While I appreciate the benefits of targeted advertising (I don't need a farm tractor), it has its down side. Last year, our daughter had worked out what Jane and I were giving her for her birthday, just by seeing adverts for the item on our computer. She even knew where we had purchased the item and it's cost. Unless you understand how the internet works, you simply don't see all the connections. Regarding just your web browser, updating it, installs files for the ever advancing technology. When you list favorite sites on the browser, it is a 'gold mine' to the browser operator.

 

I think we’ve all figured out as much by now. My browsers are always set to accept cookies, and I’ve checked off the stay logged in option. I use different browsers both on desktop and mobile. This is happening to a lot of people so it must be this site that’s having problems with its cookies. I’m not having the problem on any other site. I’ve signed in so many times, I’m starting to think my name really is Lucy Goosey!

 

Yeah, I was gonna say the "check stay logged in option" and cookies don't have any effect. It's not the end of the world, but just so you guys are aware

 

might help if you folks mention which browser and what kind of device youre using so maybe you can find the common thread of the problem

i use comodo which is basically chrome...on a win10 laptop

i also regularly clear cache and cookies

no problems here staying logged in

 

I'm on a Mac desktop using Safari

Incidentally, no issues on mobile at all

just like the last few upgrades its taking a while to get used to it but im liking it more each day

i especially like the highlight option for quoting just a part of a post...thats pretty neat

 

I keep having to log in again while on my desktop using Google and on my tablet using Bing.
