I don't know. Bookstores are going the way of the dinosaurs. So this may not even apply someday. But I know that I first noticed this about fifteen, twenty years ago. I'd go to name brand bookstore. And there'd be an adult section, with gay and hetero magazines. Then I'd come back a while later, and all the gay mags were pulled, the heterosexual ones being untouched and in their rightful place. Did someone ask for them to take them down? And why was the hetero porn left alone? Any thoughts on this anyone?
I also think that "brick-and-mortar" bookstores, with very few exceptions, are indeed going the way of trolley cars and penny candy. What I DID notice, many years ago, in one of the then-major book chains, was that that there was often a LARGE number of hetero magazines, but maybe only one or two gay publications. I also remember, about 20 years ago, my local newssdealer had a VERY miniscule gay magazine section, but rack upon rack upon rack of straight porn magazines (and videos) Are gays THAT much of a minority? Is this discrimination by the bookseller/newsdealer? I sure think so......... "Live long and prosper"
I miss the days of adult bookstores. I’m a married guy and at first, I would avoid the gay section. Didn’t want anyone to think I was gay. I finally ventured over to the shemale section, then from there, the gay area. I consider myself bi now and would have no hesitation about being seen in the gay section. Of course, the adult bookstores are all gone now.
I used to luv the adult store we had which had a big video section in the back, would go in there to peruse the gay vids often, it was sooo exciting when others would come in and see me looking at them, it almost always got a converstion going and many times led us out behind the shop for some dirty fun!
