My family was nothing if not creative.

Anyways, when I was young, we'd go to the mall, and get an Orange Julius. For some reason, we were obsessed with making it at home. And finally we hit upon (what we thought was) the recipe.

Simply add a tablespoon or so of orange juice concentrate to a cup of milk. Then mix well in a blender. I have to admit, it does come out looking and tasting like an Orange Julius. Although I was kind of let down when I finally saw the real ingredients to the drink. We weren't even close. Still, it was fun to try. (BTW, they no longer seem to sell orange juice concentrate anymore. So I don't know how you'd make it now.)

Also, from my childhood, my parents told me, if you want a quick drink, simply purée a carrot with a glass of water in the blender. Don't knock it. It actually tastes surprisingly good. I also later thought you could add some lecithin and brewers' yeast, to make a truly healthy drink. Again, don't knock it till you try it.

Have any of you come up with similar unique drinks as a child?

Once I was thirsty and vocally vocalising that I was thirsty. My dad grabbed a tin of pineapple, slammed a hole in it and said drink this.

I discovered as a child that if you mix orange cordial with blackcurrant cordial and a lil lime cordial + lemonade it tastes a lot like skittles!
