I'm boiling up a big pot to put my heat packs in. They're pretty cool they are like gel and you boil them to gel like state of liquid and there's a metal button in there and when you push it there's some sort of chemical reaction where the gel solidifies and heats up. It turns to hard form and then when the heat is gone you boil it back up in a pot and go again. I have 3 large back pads and like 7 small ones. They're also good pocket warmers.

 

we used to play about with copper sulfate as kids heat it up till it goes white then wet it and it burns your hand

 

and magnesium too, I remember in metal works, you'd oxy torch strips of magnesium until they glowed white and then you put in a ping pong ball and make a smoke bomb.
