All "they"have to do is close the grocery stores or shut off the electricity=instant Lord of The Flies scenario, when we--the great unwashed masses have outlived our usefulness to ---"them."

If some DO get to Mars and establish a colony---again---won't be anyone we know.

regardless of all the talk about how we are doing such a shitty job on the earth....if we are talking about the long game, then we will actually need other stars to live around in order to guarantee that our species lives on.

and even that won't be enough, because by the time the Sun burns out we may be well on our way to evolving into a different species

Reminds me of my science fair exhibit, where I had bread growing mold, and when it became too overpopuated the mold shot off spores into space to find another food source. ...and habitat....exactly what is happening.....

My science project was two lead pencils face down in water with a battery connected to each pencil. I forget what it was trying to prove... But bubbles came out of the ends in the water hehe.

 

This is only logic by a NASA Scientist, practically it won't be possible.

 

if it cant be commercialized and sold to the masses to make billions i guess it ain't worth doing :/

electrolysis, H2O gets split into hydrogen which collects on the negative electrode, and oxygen which collects on the positive electrode.

 

The whole purpose of one's human mind (methinks) is to expand on the possibilities one knows, to leap beyond to ascertain, with creativity to 'boldly Go...' for we would be foolhardy to think that we could sap dry our planet without consequences

 

well i'm pulling my weight by not reproducing.

 

if the human race allows it's greed for money to prevail over good sense, and destroy the environment in such a way as to guarantee our extinction then nature will take back the earth. obviously our species wasn't fit enough to adapt to a changing paradigm; holding onto doing things the same old way as they've been done for millenia eventually gets you left behind.

 

Nature will take it back anyway sooner or later.....

 

when you get down to it, we are just a really weird part of nature. so there is nothing for it to "take back" from us.

 

The way world politics and religion is moving at the moment, there could be a distinct possibility of another world war, that would reduce over-population.

 

^^^and render the planet virtually unlivable for human beings...

 

Hey guess what: if we don't get as much kids as our grandparents/parents (depends on the country I guess) then after a couple of decades there would be no overpopulation either.

 

So how will you implement that rule? bearing in mind we don't live in a totalitarian country and the world is governed by mainly democratic process and freedom of decision and expression oh and speech.....

 

I don't plan to implement any rules. Just saying we don't need a world war for getting rid of overpopulation. Should I ask how you're gonna implement a war in order to get rid of overpopulation?

The chinese have implemented a rule to limit overpopulation by the way. Not sure if it is working or that I am for such a forced method, but just saying it is not out of the question to regulate such a thing. It doesn't sound more inhumane than killing each other with guns
