Just go ahead and use that wax...you'll achieve what it sounds like you want, which is a head of faux dreads for tour season, then you can do like everyone else and cut them off in the fall.

i have a question, people that use wax, once there dreads lock up they start scrubbin there dreads washing them, takin good steps to cleanin them, wouldnt the wax come out after a week or two?! or does the wax stay in the hair for ever!!!! and ever! im not plannin on slappin down an ounce of wax on ever dreads lol, i kno its bad though... im still tryin to just let it grow with no wax...id like them to be natural and like clean, (WAX FREE).... im just waitin to see what happens with my hair, ill try to let it do its own thing, cuz i kno its the right thing to do HAHA for my dreadies.

Wax stays in forever once you use it. You may wash it in hot water and get the majority out but you cant get all of it. it's sticky shit

my opinion there are a whole lot worse things that wax that you could put in your hair... but then again that doesn't mean you should use wax....

Actually there is alot of anti bias wax.

You CAN get "all" the wax out. But im saying that from personal experiance.

I used wax for a little while, probabaly to much. And let me tell you that shit does not come out. You do not know the extreme lengths I went to to get all the wax out.

Ya know how the wax came out? Eventually the waxy dreads fell apart and my hair was washed like crazy then they reformed.

Talk about wasting a month-2 months for wax huh.

The wax will just goop your hair together, it never really knots up. So when you do end up painstakingly getting all the wax out you will end up with not so knotty hair and be in the same position you are in today. 1 step forward, 3 months back. If you start now you will have decent dreads by summer, just get someone to backcomb for you NOW! Check out lucyinthesky's dreads. She's just a little over a month into it & her dreads look beautiful. No wax, just twisting and pulling. Why don't you post some pics of your head currently? Most of us could help you out in the best route to take.

I used wax when I started my first head of dreads... I looked like Struwwelpeter for weeks, and my hair was all greasy and disgusting, even though I washed every day. The wax never came out, I used all sorts of methods, like salt, baking soda, lemon juice, all three combined with tea tree oil, scrubbing, heating... it never came out. Eight months later I finally hacked at my dreads until they were out, and what I came up with was a shopping bag full of hair that was full of lint and still greasy from all the wax. And that was the supposedly "good" stuff that the "dreading" sites sell. It was really filthy, and I don't recommend it at all... unless you want for a couple of months silly little things on your head like Link has in Encino Man. Erm... after all that, have fun and good luck :)

    Hey EVERYONE!!! i APOLOGIZE!
WAX SUCKS ASS!, this is my story...
i was tryin to get some wax so went to this hippie store and asked them if they sell wax, the lady gave me a can of "Dread Head Hq" dreading wax for FREE! idk why but she just gave it to me for free..... NOW i was some what defending wax because when people said Wax i was thinking a waxy substance more like a cream, less like an actuall Wax (candle), and the other wax i was tryin to use, u could take that out ur hair it might take a little scrubbin but it comes right out...
NOw with dreading wax that shit is sooo hard and "waxy" it will fuck up ur hair, i didnt even try the dreadin wax, its obviously bad for ur hair and wont help!

but now im tryin to get dreadlocks soon, and i dont want them too messy, and i want them pretty fast, now how can i get dreads without wax, to start them off pretty fast?

mine are looking ok, some are about a month old, some just a few days old.
i got a friend to braid my hair and one by one have taken out the braids and back combed the hair. some braids made one dread, some made 2. the oldest are only a month old but i would have a nightmare trying to comb them out if i tried, they are pretty tight already ;)

Backcombing. Ask your moms or some friends & make a party out of it.
