...I have never been to a city that has so many things to do. In fact, I am always amazed at all the free musuems, variety of nature within the city and cultural events. I don't think any city, at least of the many cities I have been to in the 25 countries I have been to, beats DC for amount of free things to do. I have been with my gf since mid September and we have found something (and never the same thing twice) to do every single weekend since then and we still have a nice sized list of sights and things to see. Granted I had seen a lot of it before I met her. But it is a pleasure to show her musuems, nature, etc. that I love, plus, there is just as much I had never seen before meeting her, so exploring new things in the city with someone new to the city is also a great feeling.

Have you been to DC? What are some of your favorite things within the city and metro area? As far as things to do, it is a great couples city. (But not a great city if you are coming single IMO)

I find the Masonic architecture and layout of DC to be very interesting. Washington is just one of the three city-states which play a key role in the control of this planet. The other two city-states are the City of London and Vatican City. All three prominently feature an obelisk, too.

DC is a great city. I've been there a few times. I enjoyed the holocaust museum as much as you can enjoy something like that. I'm one that typically gets bored with looking at things in museums but that one kept my attention. When I was there once I went to the WWII memorial by myself. They were doing a ceremony celebrating a bunch of WWII vets. All of these vets were there in their wheelchairs lines up for this ceremony. I watched the whole thing as it made me cry. I watched as these guys were wheeled around the memorial and I could only imagine the memories that were going through their heads. I stopped and talked to a few of them. It was very interesting.

I've been to DC a handful of times. It is a beautiful city with a huge variety of activities (and lots of nice neighboring towns). Downside is that there are way, waayyyyy too many people. Good Lord.

The big catch is that the cost of living is extremely high. Traffic is bad too, but you can use the Metro.

I love all the museums that are part of the Smithsonian, even the ones that are less popular, or located away from the main cluster. The botanical gardens (halfway between the Air & Space Museum and the Capitol) are world class, showcasing every regional climate in America.

For just relaxing, all the areas near the river are quiet and beautiful. That includes the Jefferson Memorial and the Lee house on top of the big hill inside Arlington National Cemetery.

Outside of town, Great Falls are incredible. Views on both sides are different, and equally interesting. Mount Vernon is beautiful, and more interesting than I thought it would be. No museum has more info on George Washington. I love the ferry boat rides between Alexandria and Georgetown, especially at night. Old Town Alexandria has a very cool vibe. Annapolis, Maryland (waterfront) is a quaint destination for a short road trip.

The only category where the DC area comes up short is nightlife. I find Georgetown to be a bit over-rated and pretentious. Alexandria is a little better.
