i dont use a wool thinguie, but instead i cut one of my wife's panty-hone and made 3 caps out of each leggin'. Tie them up top with a knot and presto! sleeping hats!
they kinda bother my ears at times, when i forget to take my earrings off.... but it's all good.

only problem is that apparently by the way i sleep, my dreads wake up kinda flattened.

I can't stand the smell of it and also I heard its smell doesn't always go away right away some say it can last weeks.

I am also sort of in the process of growing locks. I'm letting my hair grow and if it starts to knot up I'll leave it, but I'm trying not to worry/think about it too much. My hair has a natural curl to it, but some of it it pretty straight, I have found that when I wash with only water my hair gets super-curly.

But it's hard for me to go more than a few days with only water, so over the past few months I've been switching between bronner's, a regular shampoo and water. My hair is around 7 inches long, just keep experimenting, people are always changing what they wash with

This concept confuses me.... Dont you want your hair to move around in your sleep so it can knot? I understand the wool (or whatever) throws that you use as pillow cases to promote the hair to move and knot....but the hat that keeps it in place?

Mezz: the guy that re-touches my dreads monthly or so gave me that advice. my hair is naturally curly curly as very fucking curly. He told me, when to sleep to use a semi-tight panty hose in my head. I do understand the wool concept but that works mostly for straight hair. Me, in my case... I should do to tight spandex-stuff cuz my hair can knot down really easily.

besides, it prevents the little mischiefs that un-tie from the dreadlock to roam about free, giving you the sense of "gee.... my hair looks like I just woke up" feeling.

i'll try to post some pics later... if not go to my profile, there's a couple there of when I had 1 or 2 month-old dreads. (really short)

Ahhh, fair enough. I could only imagine how crazy curly hair would get (but am a little jealous as to how quickly it knots up)... And thanks to my arrow straight hair in addition to it being shoulder length, I dont even get the "just woke up" look.. now that my hair is knotting I get less and less of that look as the strands get heavier (and less poofy).....

Yeah man, I'd say they are starting to lock up.... I am only new to this as well but after about 3 weeks mine were like that... Still kind of are but I notice that the strands are getting a little thicker.... Just wait it out... thats what I'm doing.

neglect takes TIME. don't worry about losing a few tangles along the way. it happens

So hard for me not to mess with mine, I'm always feeling through them finding wierd shapes and just playing with them. Although mine have been backcombed so it's a bit different to messing with hair starting with the neglect.
